Aberfeldy 12 Year Old Bottling Note

A classic Highland dram, Aberfeldy 12 Year Old single malt whisky is a creamy, sweet and gently smoky example of what the region produces. Bolstered by plenty of Aberfeldy's signature honeyed fruit character, this makes for a superbly laid-back sipper. The label comes with a rather handsome black and rose-gold colour palate to match the rich, malty, honeyed flavour profile.

Aberfeldy Golden Hot Toddy recipe:

- 50ml of Aberfeldy 12 Year Old
- 1/2 shot of local honey
- 1/2 shot of lemon juice

Combine the above ingredients in a mug and top up with hot water. Garnish with lemon, a cinnamon stick, and some star anise to spread the cheer of this cosy classic.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Creamy. Some sherried fruit with a trailing hint of smoke. Honeyed prunes, custard, and espresso beans.

Palate Sweet, malty, with gentle peat and a mellow, silky texture. Vanilla fudge, peaches and cream, and subtle toasted oak follow.

Finish Ginger, malt, nutty nougat, and maybe a little grapefruit zest.

Reviews for Aberfeldy 12 Year Old
Solid but not as good as the 16
For a non peated highland, and 12 yr old, this is a solid dram if you like velvety honey, light stewed fruit, with a touch of vanilla, cream soda, spice and butterscotch. Not too sweet, but decent after dinner dram or late at night when you don't want a peated punch from Islay. Not too complex, good for beginners, would make an interesting flight with Glenlivet 12 and Aberlour 12, for a highlands vs. speyside showdown.

A nice easy going whisky.
I found the 12 year old a beautiful whisky. I preferred this to the 16 year old. I would place it in a similar vein to a Double Wood.

Easy going drinker - nice for new scotch tasters
Nice gentle, sweet, laid back. Lots of honey, creaminess and a little bit of sherry / raisin at the end

Shockingly good Highland.
Actually, shockingly good. Have seen this for years but avoided it due to the low price. Goes to show that money can't buy you love...perfect Highland profile.

Mediocre, and quickly sharp.
Wow. Seeing all these clueless 3 and 4 star reviews. The longevity of this whisky is one is 3 seconds and it then turns bitter and stale. Favourable reviewers need to try real, proper single pot still triple distilled Irish whiskey. I wouldn't rate this particular Scotch better than an off-the-shelf cheap Irish whiskey we keep for Irish coffees and tourists. Compared to our actual whiskeys this is like 'Paddys'. I know they're technically different drinks (Irish & Scotch) and therefore not directly comparable, however, eh no. No.

Very good single malt
Tasted 12 Years very recently and quickly dismissed all other alternatives. Very smooth, tasty and softly flavoured single malt, but still not too spicy and not very smokey.

Delicious for yourself or as a gift
This is a really safe buy for a gift for someone who likes Single Malts or for yourself! ;). It is easily drinkable, smooth honey flavour but still with lots of different flavours going on. Delicious straight, with water or just on the rocks. Highly recommend it.

A gentler malt but still with a decent flavour
It's been a while since I last had an Aberfeldy and then it was their 8 year old malt. This is a different beast altogether. Darker and with a stronger flavour but still quite mild compared with other single malts. Slightly smokey best suited for those who prefer a gentler malt. Quite good but I can only give it 3 stars.

Bit dull.
Drinking in 2022. Fine, smooth. But a bit dull really. No wonder it is marketed with a Toddy recipe really. Save your dollars for something more adventurous.
