A unique vodka here from The Borders Distillery, Puffing Billy is with a base of malted barley, which is pot-distilled and the redistilled using a specially-commissioned Carterhead still named Puffing Billy. What's unique about Puffing Billy (the vodka) is that while a lot of vodka will be filtered as a liquid, Puffing Billy (the still) steams the spirit vapours through charcoal inside the still itself! Incredibly clever indeed.
Softly creamy, with subtle hints of red berries, cut grass and caraway.

Unfiltered is not a negative thing, FAR from it. If I were to recommend a vodka, this would be it. To poach a turn of phrase from Marks & Sparks, this isn't just any vodka, this is unfiltered Scottish Borders malted barley vodka, made using a unique Carterhead still. Naturally, this makes it rather distinct from the allegedly superior Polish & Russian produce mentioned below. Let me explain their differences. Where the vodkas from those countries are distilled many times and filtered even more times, their goal is to remove pretty much all flavour and that's not the case with Puffing Billy. If you're after a bland but crisp vodka, stick with your belvedere and grey goose. If you're after something with a lovely creamy texture that actually has flavour, Puffing Billy is yer boy. The use of the malted barley in the carterhead means that there are big tropical notes to this fabulous product. Big vanilla notes mean it's well suited to the UK's most popular cocktail - the P0rnst@r martini - or equally simply with aromatic tonic or ginger beer. I've had a few cocktails and highballs with the vodka and each have been excellent. It's a great product to work with, clearly made by passionate folks. Wonderful stuff that's a great way to drink a little differently.
absolutly vile! tastes more like tequila watered down with dirty bath water! if you like a traditional vodka this not for you, smell and taste is vile, leave the vodka making to the Russians and polish.
