Rolling Calf Spiced Bottling Note
This folklore-inspired spirit is made from a blend of rums from Trinidad and Barbados, some three years aged in oak barrels, that were specially selected by the master blenders, as well a good helping of spiced to accentuate the flavour profile.
But what folklore inspired it, I hear you say? Gather round, I'll tell you a tale...
The Jamaican countryside at night may seem like the perfect place to continue your Caribbean dream holiday after the beach - the welcome cool of night after a hot day, the feel of grass under your feet rather than sand...
But in this land lives a terrible beast... The Rolling Calf!
It is a huge creature, bound by heavy chains, that rolls along the roads at night, channelling evil spirits to terrify and torment all who cross its path. Always male, they are thought to be the spirits of people (particularly butchers) who were wicked and dishonest during their life.
If you hear that unnerving clanking noise, there are but a few options for escape. One is to drop objects for it to count, another is to stick a pen knife in the ground at a cross-roads. A rolling calf is also petrified of being hit with a tarred whip held in the left hand.
Most would say its a myth, some would say its real, but just to be safe, maybe you should stay in and enjoy a nice spiced drink...
