Rock Town 1 Year Old (That Boutique-y Bourbon Company)

The second independently bottled bourbon from Rock Town in Arkansas by That Boutique-y Bourbon Company! On the label, distillery founder Phil Brandon calls down lightening from the sky to char those barrels so he can fill 'em with Rock Town's Arkansas Lightening to age some tasty bourbon.

Batch 2 is a release of 190 bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Through barrel char earthiness and dusty oak comes crystallized caramel, toffee apples and zesty orange rind. Fresh peppermint and herbal thyme develop, among an almost eucalyptus spice note. A little peppery vanilla fizzes throughout.

    Palate

The palate becomes more vegetal, with green tea, bruised apples and loose leaf tobacco. Woody sultanas and sour cherry brings fruity complexity, as dusty oak and pencil shavings add aromatic depth. There’s lingerings of butterscotch, vanilla cola and corn sweetness in the backdrop.

    Finish

Plenty of berry notes, blackberry and a hint of raspberry, with cinnamon soda.

    Overall

Sheer class for a dram its age - depth, variety and oodles of flavour. Properly yummy.

Reviews for Rock Town 1 Year Old (That Boutique-y Bourbon Company)

    Grown ups' bourbon. Highly recommended

Powerful, without harshness. Sweet without cloying. Lovely length and mouthfeel. Not cheap, but 50cl works for me. (Drink less, drink better. Or if you have the funds, drink the same amount...) Will buy again. Well done Boutique-ers!

    Astonishing

Good grief penfold. This is quite an accomplishment. How on earth they manage this level of complexity in one year is truly astounding. Its young and tastes it don't get me wrong but has many many more layers than stuff 3 times it's age. The nose is full of dark fruits and berries, the palate is spicy so I'd guess rye forward but then it takes you through the layers. Lots of Berry tang followed by smooth vanilla and toffee. The dusky warehouse and leather is appearant too. The finish makes me think this may have been resting in a root beer barrel? A bit pricey but for those looking for quality over quantity this ride is great fun. M. Horrell
