This is actually terrible... The bottle and label look great, but the actual spirit smells horrible and tastes even worse... like something you shouldn't put into your body. Disappointing as I could have bought 2 bottles of Gilbey's for the same price and with a 10x better taste.
After a great experience at the distillery a few weeks ago, it is with regret that I advise you not to buy this product with caution. I bought a bottle of this rum from the distillery to enjoy at home, once home I noticed it had a strange smell - I asked colleagues to define it. After a week I was informed that this liquid acted very much like mentholated spirits. So be careful!
Bought a bottle in Bangkok and had high expectations as the former "Magic Alambic" distillery in Samui used to produced a very nice local rum. Before I even had the first sip I thought the smell was odd and - lo and behold - the stuff tastes just like Lao Khao (cheap local rice liquor). It is - at best - a glorified version of exactly that and I am not buying it's 100% sugarcane. The batch number on the label says 000001.
