Barti Spiced Bottling Note

Barti Spiced from The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company is a blend of Caribbean rums spiced with notes of vanilla, cloves and orange and one special, secret ingredient: Pembrokeshire laver seaweed, also known as Welshman's caviar. As it's bottled at 35% ABV, it can't technically be called a spiced rum, due to laws and that. The name derives from a famous Pembrokeshire Pirate, 'Barti Ddu', or in English 'Black Bart'.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Warm, rich baking spices, marmalade, and a wave of coastal saltiness.

Palate: Orange zest persists through cardamom, cloves and ginger, while toffee apples, vanilla and the faintest hint of red cola cubes provide an interesting back-drop.

Finish: Medium length, very smooth and a beautiful and interesting blend of spice and salinity.

Barti Spiced Reviews

Christmas in a bottle

First thing - no hint of seaweed (except for a slightly salty aftertaste which is quite nice). Instead they seem to have packed every possible Christmas spice into the bottle. Sometimes its mince pies, sometime christmas cake, xmas pudding, dundee cake, everything. Top be honest, on first sip and smell its a little overwhelming, but it gradually subsides into something altogether more pleasant - and always that salty aftertaste leaves you wanting more.

Beautiful, tasty, brilliant!

Without a doubt the smoothest, tastiest spiced rum we've had. Numerous side by side tastings and it still wins every time.

Very smooth and full of flavour

A great tasting rum that should be drunk neat so you can fully appreciate the flavours. I’ve recommended it to many friends and they’ve all bought a bottle after having a taste

Fantastic rum!!

pathetic

hugely overpriced and appalling flavour. quite how the price is justified considering its only 35%, not a rum, and tastes awful, is beyond me. has probably got away with it as there havent been a lot of spiced rum alternatives before now... but now there is, avoid at all costs

Smooth and irresistible

Reminiscent of a quarter pound of cola cubes, this rum is one of the smoothest I have ever tasted. A real tipple that can be enjoyed with or without a mixer in equal measures, whatever they do with that Pembrokeshire seaweed, it really really works

Delightful

Everything you want and more, my mate Steve recommends using exactly 25ml

Perfect rum.

Since discovering this is a few years back thanks to a random stranger on Twitter, I buy one every Christmas. It's perfect. Its great neat, but I like it with a splash of good cola and a slice of lime over ice. It's beautiful.
