Shogun English Sake
English sake, brewed in Peckham! This rice-based drink boasts an elegant balance of sweet and savoury flavours. Layered with notes of fruit and umami, enjoy it with a meal, or serve neat and chilled.
Green apple, banana, pear, and floral notes.
I really wanted to like this as it's made by a new British brewery, but unfortunately it was disappointing. It starts off well with an almost sweet, grassy note that's quite unique, but the finish isn't as smooth as other sakes in this price range. To my palate, the aftertaste had an almost chemical edge, which I wasn't a fan of. We tried it chilled, room temp and hot. Overall, there are much better sakes available for less money, so I won't be buying it again.
I drink a lot of sake and didn't know what to expect with my first taste of an English produced sake. All I can say is - it was worth the risk - delicious, complex and refreshing.
