Pusser's Gunpowder Proof Bottling Note

Pusser's 'Gunpowder Proof' Black Label (previously known as Blue Label) is a higher proof traditional British Naval rum, produced using the blending recipe from the Admiralty. Well loved, it picked up a Trophy at the International Spirits Challenge 2016.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is full of dried fruits, dates, prunes, slightly overripe figs. The palate is very sweet, plenty of dark, syrupy, stewed fruits. An interesting pot still character with a pleasant muddiness. Full-bodied. The finish is incredibly long and dark.

Pusser's 'Gunpowder Proof' Black Label Reviews

Having served in the pusser Navy for 16 years I can say ""none Better.""

Essential rum for any ex Andrew rating

As an ex navy man and avid rum drinker I do enjoy this rum. Not for the squeamish though as it is full of flavour and bite.

Possibly as near to the original rum issued in the Royal Navy.

One of the best as regards tasting like the original rum in the Royal Navy. This rum is to be savoured either neat or 2in1 (two parts water to one part rum) the grog that was issued to junior rates every day until 31st July 1970. Brings back the memories.

The best of dark rums

The best of dark rums.. Pusser's gunpowder is my absolute favourite.. It has to be drunk neat.. add nothing, that only spoils perfection.

Wonderful taste

I have had the blue label Pusser's rum and was very happy with that. I tried this and was impressed with the rich taste. It's a smoother finish and a in depth flavour

Boom!!! Hits the spot!!

An absolute favourite. Simply pour a healthy drop into your best glass , drop a cube of ice into it ,then enjoy!

Great neat or mixed

I found Pusser's gunpowder proof rum when I gained a Royal Navy issue copper grog mug dating from 1951. It is great both as a sipper allowing the flavours to develop slowly in the mouth, or really nice with ice ,ginger beer and lime juice

Grows on you.

I didn’t really like this at first, I found it a bit harsh. Then I found the bottle emptying quite quickly, and really miss it now it’s empty.

The Real Deal

THE creme de la creme of all things Rum! From memory it tastes just like the old Royal Naval "TOT" (its supposed to) that I was brought up on in the 60's before it was stopped - As has been said before "I'll be back!"

Go on you know you want too!

If you wonder what all the noise is about the old Royal Navy tot and wish to see what it tasted like try this one - the nearest rum I've found to the real thing that I drank daily back in my Royal Navy days! Up to the proper strength too, pity about the measure but that is your choice! It should be 1/2 a gill - go on you know you want too - just one warning once tried you won't want to go back to any other rum!
