Winner of 2 awardsA rather marvellous overproof dark rum from the Planteray range. Their O.F.T.D. (which stands for 'Old Fashioned Traditional Dark') is comprised of a blend of rums distilled in Barbados, Jamaica and Guyana, which has been bottled at a hefty 69% ABV. This'll be excellent for cocktails, we reckon...

OFTD is the greatest overproof rum on the market. I love Pussers 151 but this blows it out of the water. I can mainly taste and smell the Guyanese Demarara rums in OFTD with hints of Jamaica and very little of Barbados. OFTD tastes very similar to Pusser's Gunpowder Proof Spiced. OFTD makes the best rum and cokes, Dark and Stormies, Pankillers and Zombies. You can even sip OFTD neat although take it easy. Permanant restock for me.
A gentle giant with lots of complexity. Exceptionally good in a cocktail.
Well, yes, it is strong, however, if you enjoy the intense aromas you will definitely like it. It has sweet and spicy notes, all of them are, of course, way more intence than in your regular 40% ABV / 80-proof drinks. I found here some slight similarities with a good strong rye whisky, especially the amazinf spicy finishing touch. You have to really taste this rum, not just drink it like you regular everyday stuff, because once it opens up its richness, you will definitely be delighted by it. It is a great thing for rum connoisseurs and definitely shouldn't be missed. Also might be suitable for those who enjoy rye whisky or bourbon spice. However, if you are just into getting drunk or having a casual drink, it's going to give you a real punch that might be rather strong.
So I purchased this as to try something with a little more kick, kick isn't the word as I took my first sip. Wow this was a pleasant surprise as I was expecting a harsh burn, but not at all. Its not one I'd sip n drink all night but one or two and you will be feeling warm inside. Its probably better as a mixer if you were planning on drinking this all evening.
To address the 2* review: Cant drink it straight / on the rocks... Its a 69% rum; who does that unless they can handle it? 50/50 with your soft drink of choice - especially diet pepsi - this is the one; its fierce even at this dilution, probably a 50% alc content but its so delicious. Try Pantation 5 year Barbados if you want straight rum. Straight, this is too dry for me but mixed Heaven.
