Pirate's Grog Rum

Pirate's Grog Rum Bottling Note

This ship-shape sight is Pirate's Grog Rum, made from a blend of Caribbean rums which are aged in bourbon barrels for 3 to 5 years on the island of Roatán. Sweet with vanilla and brown sugars, this goes very well in rum-based cocktails, or can be enjoyed over ice. You don't have to speak like a pirate to enjoy Pirate's Grog Rum, but it helps set the scene.

New household staple rum
Really lovely rum. Not too sweet, really smooth, nice mature flavour for a young rum.

Blackbeard wouldn't approve
Pirates grog, 5 year old - anything with pirate in the name is a good thing . . . . Except poo. When un-corked (bonus point for the cork) it smells like raisins and vodka? Over ice it tastes weirdly like a fine whiskey? And with coke is almost indistinguishable, tasting like a smooth vodka and coke? Pretty sure it was made by 5 year olds as opposed to being 5 years old and they put the wrong label on the bottle, as is not a rum in any way shape or form. Buy if you want a fine whiskey at a lower price. Mix with coke if you like vodka and coke. Not terrible though, 6/10.

Smooth and sweet
I’m still pretty new to drinking rum, but this was really nice! A little sweet and smooth to drink, didn’t burn my tongue like Captain Morgan. Pleasantly warming too!

Well worth the price
For a relatively young rum, this does have far more of a matured flavour than I expected. I have had 8yr and 12yr rums that are more similarly comparable to this than other 5yr rums.
The light tones of butterscotch and vanilla did definitely come through and, as a sipping rum, would highly recommend it.

Look elsewhere at the price
It's not a competitor at this price. Mount Gay Eclipse is utterly superior. Its a touch raw, on account of its youth. Later expressions could be interesting, but at approaching £30, nah

One of the worst rums I've had the misfortune of sampling. Couldn't finish the glass, like drinking TCP. Cannot understand what the fuss is about.

Gone too quickly
An absolutely beautiful bottle with amazing flavours. A great aroma to compliment every sip (not that I sipped much) Not ever would I obscure these delicious flavours by mixing. So happy with this purchase.

Very smooth rum
This rum is very smooth and we enjoyed drinking it neat. The balance is light, yet the flavours are complex, which is unlike anything I've tried before. We'll certainly be indulging again this weekend!
