Pirate's Grog No. 13 is a marvellous rum that's well suited to enjoying neat or over ice. It's also got a drop-dead grogeous gorgeous bottle with an handsome shiny label...
Milk chocolate buttons, dried fruit and a good whack of exotic spice.
Well-structured oak warmth with layers of toffee and dark chocolate.
Milky coffee, cinnamon and orange oil.
Recently tried this over some ice and was not impressed, initially almost overpowered by the smokiness of this rum, then left with a sweet and not particularly pleasant aftertaste.
Clearly the bottle is 5/5, the rum isn’t as good in my opinion compared to price? It tastes ok is all I can say, it has whisky vibes to the taste, ( I drink whisky and enjoy whisky) classic rum flavours, orange, sugar, quite subdued, there is a faint synthetic taste in the background I’m not sure about There are many better rums for £30-40 unfortunately, I just love that bottle though But I expect to taste £70 rum inside
Another case of a beautiful bottle containing a sub-par rum. Not terrible by any means, but not that good straight. Definitely not worth the high price.
We tried the whole Pirates Grog range by the dock at a market in Liverpool recently & I loved the sample so much I had to find it online and buy a bottle! The rum has so much depth to it and the fact that it has so many similarities to a fine single malt means my father in law can join me for a wee dram!
