A fantastic aged rum from the Doorly's range, featuring Bajan rum from the Foursquare Distillery which has enjoyed a second maturation in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. This extra maturation imparts a wealth of fruit, dark chocolate and oaky spices to the rum's flavour profile, making this an excellent choice for sipping neat. Not only that, it's got a pretty good bird on the label. Bonus.
Sugarcane, Demerara sugar, meaty and rich. Over-ripe grape notes and spice.
Fresh flowers, oak, potpourri, cedar, honey, toffee apples.
Long, muscovado sugar and oak-led spices.

Please note - this is actually RUM, rather than a liqueur, which is basically what Zacapa/Diplomatico/etc. is. There is no added sugar and, as such, there is guaranteed to be a little more "burn" than some of its doctored colleagues, purely because this is a SPIRIT, rather than an artificially flavoured liquid. Absolutely stunning value and a great product, made the correct way. We should all be supporting this method, rather than falling for the claims of other rums which claim "no added sugar" when they are, in fact, adding LOADS!!
This is what i imagine when I think of the taste of rum, nothing against sweeter tastes, but rum is a spirit and should taste as such
Top rum! Complex, deep, aromatic - proper rum distilled & blended by a small local business that knows what it's about. No messing, no frills, no added spices & sugar, it just does what it says on the bottle. If you think alcohol that "burns" a bit as you swallow it is wrong then you need to grow a pair or grow up! For the price, an absolute steal.
Having read the reviews here, I purchased a bottle of Doorley's XO, but it did not live up to expectations. By my own admission, I am not a rum expert, but I found this rum unrefined. It lacked the complexity and depth I was expecting, and had a noticeable burn, as opposed to a warming sensation, on the way down. in my humble opinion, this rum makes a good mixer, but doesn't have the character to stand alone. On reflection, I would have done better to purchase the 3cl sample first, saving myself £22 in the process!
I buy spirits by the case which discounts this to about $14 USD...stupid good, pure, no additives rum worth 2-3 times the price easily. You have to step up into Mount Gay XO territory to best it and you'll conclude this is still more than worthy of your shelf, twist cap and modest bottle notwithstanding. The mouth feel is a bit thin - it's only 6 years old - but this is an honest, real fooking rum. On an ultimate scale, value proposition adds 1/2 star to my scoring of this modern day classic for a total of four stars. Decanting opens her up.
