A six year old blend of rums from Barbados, Doorly's XO is finished in an Oloroso sherry cask, which adds a lovely character.

Please note - this is actually RUM, rather than a liqueur, which is basically what Zacapa/Diplomatico/etc. is. There is no added sugar and, as such, there is guaranteed to be a little more "burn" than some of its doctored colleagues, purely because this is a SPIRIT, rather than an artificially flavoured liquid. Absolutely stunning value and a great product, made the correct way. We should all be supporting this method, rather than falling for the claims of other rums which claim "no added sugar" when they are, in fact, adding LOADS!!

This is what i imagine when I think of the taste of rum, nothing against sweeter tastes, but rum is a spirit and should taste as such

Top rum! Complex, deep, aromatic - proper rum distilled & blended by a small local business that knows what it's about. No messing, no frills, no added spices & sugar, it just does what it says on the bottle. If you think alcohol that "burns" a bit as you swallow it is wrong then you need to grow a pair or grow up!For the price, an absolute steal.

Having read the reviews here, I purchased a bottle of Doorley's XO, but it did not live up to expectations.By my own admission, I am not a rum expert, but I found this rum unrefined. It lacked the complexity and depth I was expecting, and had a noticeable burn, as opposed to a warming sensation, on the way down.in my humble opinion, this rum makes a good mixer, but doesn't have the character to stand alone. On reflection, I would have done better to purchase the 3cl sample first, saving myself £22 in the process!

I buy spirits by the case which discounts this to about $14 USD...stupid good, pure, no additives rum worth 2-3 times the price easily. You have to step up into Mount Gay XO territory to best it and you'll conclude this is still more than worthy of your shelf, twist cap and modest bottle notwithstanding. The mouth feel is a bit thin - it's only 6 years old - but this is an honest, real fooking rum.On an ultimate scale, value proposition adds 1/2 star to my scoring of this modern day classic for a total of four stars. Decanting opens her up.

I think sherried finishes on dark rums is very good because you get the lovely warm gentile caramel and molasses tastes from a good quality dark rum for example Ron Zacapa which is one of my personal favourates especially the 2014 and 2015 reserva limitada any way back to the point the sherried finish cuts through the distinctive caramel and molasses at the end with a sweet zing like Pedro Ximinez finishes do on single malt whisky. I'm a big single malt fan and dark rum fan and it goes to say you can not gain exsperiance and knolage if you don't try and buy and personal taste is subjective !

good lord and great goddess....jeez. just sampled some Pyrat...interesting liqueur-ish rum...and this 'cheapie' has to follow? wow. stands on its own. perfectly balanced sweetness, depth, burn (very little, but it lets you know there is a alcohol in it)....! very tasty with some citrus and banana notes. depth depth depth at this price? and then there's a nice lingering finish. good gawd, get a bottle now. or steal on, ya old blimey

What can I say? This is the most complex rum I have ever purchased. It is the smoothest rum I have ever consumed. I recently finished a $40 bottle of Angel's Envy bourbon and purchased this today. I'd almost classify it in the category of a whiskey. The opening, middle, and finish are adventurous, memorable, and downright delightful. I can't believe I only paid $15 at Total Wine. I need to buy a case before they discover what they have and charge four times this amount.

This true, unsweetened rum is by far one of the best buys for the price - amazing quality and flavour. Love it.

To compare this to Lamb's or Jerry is not useful since those rums are sweetened and, in the case of the Sailor, openly flavoured too. Doorly's rums are pure. No flavouring, no added sugar. Made in pot stills by an expert. You cannot really get any better quality: after that's it's just a matter of taste. Without added sugar, glycerine & so on, rums have heat. This is first rate rum with a slightly sweet opening, lovely caramel middle and dryer end with added complexity from the sherry casks (wood, dark fruits)

I'm more of a single malt guy, but am trying to expand my horizons a little. The sherry finish on this rum, along with some of its wood character is familiar, though the finish is clearly set apart from what I'm used to - it's spicy yet sweet. I really enjoy it.

the 1st reviewer must be used to bacardi and it's burn. I really like a mixed drink that doesn't have the alcohol burn. with Doorly's XO I just drop a couple ice cubes and sip it neat. it has a great flavor (not syrupy) and if you insist on slamming, it will get you drunk just as easily as the others. the last bottle i had lasted about a year. and i enjoyed and tasted every drop.

Need I say more?

I don't know what the other reviewer is on about - clearly he prefers sub-standard drams and is unable to detect subtle after-tastes. This rum is like drinking alcoholic caramel - it's fantastically smooth, slightly aromatic and leaves a rich and earthy aftertaste. Although cheaper than more classic rums like pussers, el dorado and mount gay it offers superb competition. So if you're on a tight budget I'd ignore Mr. Sailor Jerry up yonder and snatch up a bottle.
I am very new to the world of whiskys and rums so feel free to take as much or as little from this review as you like but personally I was dissapointed with this rum. At first you get a nice sweet taste, not overpowering but definitely noticeable. Unfortunately this is replaced very quickly with an alcohol burn/taste. It just isn't as smooth as rums I have tried in the past such as Sailor Jerry's and Lamb's. I personally will not be buying or sampling any more of this particular rum.
