It turns out those Copeland folks don't just do gin, but fabulous rum too! This is Smugglers Reserve Overproof Rum which is double pot distilled and matured in both bourbon and Pinot Noir casks. I'm sipping one over ice as I type. The bottle is beautifully labelled and sealed with matching red wax. The smell is quite intense, but boy! the flavour!!! Quite smooth and sweet with hints of vanilla and orange. My old bottles have made beautiful candle holders. Treat yourself!
Brilliant rum. Great for sipping or with coke. Only one major problem. The bottle, its not see through so you could be in for a serious disappointment if you suddenly find you've an empty bottle lol. Tip always have a spare in the cupboard!
Complex nose flavour and finish. One to have late at night. I am getting over ripe bananas on the nose. Ginger and spice, pepper finish.
Couldn't wait to try this Rum distilled in my home town. The Copeland Distillery had converted me to drinking the odd Gin, but this was something special. Very strong (57%), so you need to be careful as it's really easy to drink. Take it neat over ice, in a Cuba Libre, or with Ginger Beer and Lime. Fantastic stuff.
