Don Papa Rum Bottling Note

A richly flavoursome rum from the Philippines, inspired by the story of Papa Isio, who played a big part in the late-19th century Philippine revolution. The rum itself is made using sugar cane grown on the island of Negros in the Philippines and matured in oak barrels for 7 years, after which it is blended and bottled.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fruity notes up front, with sweet tangerines and apricots. This is followed by vanilla ice-cream, drizzled with runny toffee sauce.

Palate: Bags-full of vanilla and cinnamon. Hints of raisin, sultana and marmalade.

Finish: Medium length with punchy cinnamon.

Overall: Rather exciting stuff.

Far too sugary. Candyfloss with a top note of industrial alcohol.

Absolutely amazing rum

Nothing Special. Just OK.

An average rum in my opinion. It’s nothing special, but by the same token it’s not as bad as some would have you believe. Drank neat, you get an instant hit of sweetness, but not so that it overpowers the rum,(could do with it being sweeter if anything.) The alcohol burn isn’t to harsh to be fair, making this rum drinkable neat. For me though, I prefer to have Don Papa mixed with Coca-Cola, just because it makes it a tad sweeter and calms down the alcoburn it does possess. Having said that, mixed with coke, Don Papa ends up developing a weird aftertaste, almost liquorice like, which doesn’t seem to be present when drank neat.

Very smooth and flavoursome

YUK! Tastes like cream soda with a slight rum topping, cloying in the mouth and repeating continuously after, even the next day. Its a bit like eating a massive bag of sweets and feeling, well, blurrrgh afterwards. Could have been one of the punishments at Willy-Wonka's.
Distilled in a place called Sugarlandia (I kid not) it has a massive sugar reading, which makes a mockery of any claimed age statement or barrel time - its all conveniently hidden by adding enough sugar to happily retire every dentist and put the rest into a diabetic coma...
(Great packaging though).
