Whitley Neill Rhubarb Bottling Note

While the original Whitley Neill Gin is inspired by the exotic flavours of Africa, their Rhubarb & Ginger Gin variation takes inspiration from closer to the Whitley family's homestead.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Subtly tart with clear rhubarb influence. A twist of orange sweetness and herbaceous coriander brings balance to the palate.

Whitley Neill Rhubarb & Ginger Gin Reviews

It's Gin, ya feel me, doh innit.

Crikey!! Some people... it's only gin, what do you expect. Bought a sample of this for the Mrs. She really liked it - more so than some more "cred"/expensive gins - so will be buying some more. New favourite. Ignore the negative reviews and treat yourself (and for the under 50s it's totes amazeballs btw).

2nd May 2018

Artificial taste, horrible

Horrible! Yuck, yuck, yuck, Artificial taste, poured it down the sink.. gutted as the Whitley quince gin is amazing

20th April 2018

The worst tasting gin ever! Reminds me of 1970's bubble gum!! Bazooka Joe on a bad day!!!

16th April 2018

The best rhubarb and ginger gin

I've tried all the rhubarb and ginger gins and liqueurs and this one is easily the nicest.

16th April 2018

Quite the worst taste imaginable

Rhubarb & Ginger - what do they conjure up?
I imagine tartness with a bit of gingery heat, slightly zesty maybe.

This vile concoction tastes like a combination of jelly tots and nail polish remover - way too sweet to be classed as a gin. YUK

11th April 2018

Cocktail gin, high flavour

Very sweet, but try it as a white lady: 2 gin, 1 lemon juice, 1 Cointreau or grand marinier Shaken with ice. Cuts the sweetness

24th March 2018

A must Buy for your gin cupboard!

This gin is a must try to anyone who likes flavoured Gins. It is best severed up with a fever tree naturally light tonic and ice. I also think that it is very well priced.

21st March 2018

tastes of artificial sweetener - a bit like cough medicine

very very disappointing... tastes of artificial sweetener - a bit like cough medicine - still tying find a way to not waste it... and I love gin, rhubarb and ginger.... just not this artificial tasting drink

16th March 2018

Blow your socks off

Just tried this wonderful gin with Fevertree Ginger beer and a good slice of lime. Totally brilliant - it'll blow your socks off!

15th March 2018

Don’t judge a gin by its name.

It really doesn’t taste of rhubarb or ginger. In fact, it takes like liquid Love Hearts. It’s my first rhubard gin purchase but I’ve heard better reviews from Warner Edwards version so I’ll try that next time.

I liked it but it’s so sweet tasting that I can only manage one glass mixed with tonic.

15th March 2018

Love it !

I’m not a big gin drinker but everyone was raving about rhubarb and ginger flavour - we love it - I’ve just poured a glass with prosecco and ginger beer !

10th March 2018

Love it.

This is one of my favourite gins! So much so that I have ordered more. I have this with ginger ale and is easy to drink.

6th March 2018

Love it. My husband gave me a gift set for the 4th anniversary of him proposing to me. It is delicious.

14th February 2018

Strong and rhubarby (if that’s even a word)

Good with fever tree ginger ale. Warner Edwards rhubarb gin probably better though. Still good.

21st January 2018

Need to mix it right to taste the rhubarb

Does not work with quite a lot of mixers. A decent ginger ale and lime bring out the best in it and then it is delicious. Not ginger beer though! Don’t make that mistake.

14th January 2018

Appearances are deceptive

I had high hopes for this appealing rhubarb and ginger gin in its beautiful purple bottle. Do not be fooled by appearances. There is no hint of either rhubarb or ginger and the taste is similar to fizzy bubble gum and sherbert sweets, even with Fevertree tonic water or bitter lemon the taste did not improve. Very disappointed, maybe I should have tried it with ginger ale but in my opinion it does not warrant the price tag of £ 26.00 and certainly with the headache that went with it this morning, I will not be purchasing this again. I returned it to the store and they gave me a full refund for which I am very grateful.

10th January 2018

I love gin. I love rhubarb. I love ginger. Alas, taken with a plain Fevertree tonic, this is vile. Somewhat sherberty. Took a while for me to recall what the taste really reminded me of - ringworm medicine forced down my throat when I was 8.

7th January 2018

Give it a go

Unusual and very pleasant.
Can’t find a serving suggestion online but from previous rhubarb gin variations, this particular gin serves well with chunky ice, ginger ale and a squeeze/slice of orange.
Flavour and scent is sweet, with a tingly after taste of ginger. Worth trying.
Would be nice to see other serving suggestions.

7th January 2018

Sweet and sickly

Sickly sweet! I couldn't detect any ginger nor rhubarb. Caramel gin would be a better description. The tasting note is rubbish -ignore it and don't buy this gin.

6th January 2018

Absolute rubbish

I bought a bottle of this gin for a new years eve party and it was the most disappointing drink I have ever had. There were eight people and not one of them enjoyed it, so it wasn't just me. We all agreed that there was no sign of rhubarb or ginger in the taste: It was just a "floral" fragrance which was not what any of us expected. Will never ever buy this or any other gin from this distiller.

1st January 2018

Don't buy this if you want a Rhubarb and Ginger Gin.

Tastes of neither Rhubarb or Ginger - an over riding spirit on the nose and something a bit like children's love heart sweets on the finish. Very disappointing.

26th December 2017

Terrible concoction.

Just opened a bottle received as a present. Unspeakably awful. Cannot imagine any mixer that would make it palatable.

25th December 2017

This is quite the worst gin I have ever tasted - if I wanted fizzy cola, instead of gin, I'd have it! What a travesty - don't they have better things they could do with gin?

24th December 2017

Not a pleasant experience

Not pleasant. A raw taste of gin is overlaid with a boiled sweet taste and smell. I could not detect either rhubarb or ginger.

20th December 2017

If i had only one gin to drink for the rest of my days it would be this. Experienced it first through craft gin club and have just ordered 3rd and 4th bottles of it. Dont quite get the negative reviews but each to their own. Im sticking with this!

11th December 2017

Easily as good as EG

Delicious, full of flavour and easy drinking. Would happily buy again to drink ourselves or give as a gift.

7th December 2017

very nice

Tried this recently after becoming a gin convert. Loved the Edinburgh gin so tried this one, very tasty with Fevertree ginger ale and so chopped citrus fruit and ice, although very easy to drink, perhaps too easy!!

5th December 2017

Great taste, l love it

I love this stuff

2nd December 2017

Best of the rest

A real nice drink

2nd December 2017

I thought it would be the same as edinghburgh gin but its too strong tastes flowery vile

Too strong tasting very over powering sorry

29th November 2017

Wonderful Taste

This is absolutely stunning, highly recommend. Slight ginger hint not over powering.

28th November 2017

Really Awful

I bought this having tried Edinburgh rhubarb gin - which I loved. This is really vile and I wondered what I could put with it to make it taste OK?? I tried tonic and it just tastes plain weird. I have a large gin collection and I doubt I will use this again!!

24th November 2017

Sweet, round and sippable.

This seems to be a Marmite item, some hate it and others love it.
I wasn't expecting to like it, but I did.
Quite sweet with a firey finish, good on its own but not the best with tonic.

23rd November 2017

Best flavoured gin on the market - superb

Soapy? I suggest you wash your glass out. There is no hint of soap and it is not (ignoring the ridiculous grammar) "terrible undrinkable...".('genuine review' by someone who doesn't speak English perhaps? They certainly have no idea how English is structured). The ginger is quite strong but this is the best flavoured gin I have tasted. It does say rhubarb and ginger - you can't complain you don't like the taste after you have been told what it tastes of!!! What is wrong with people? (I do agree that there should be more of a rhubarb taste).

19th November 2017

Don’t buy it

Terrible undrinkable and waste of money took away when we went with family nobody liked it, not like Edinburgh Rhubarb and Ginger

10th November 2017

Not great

Tastes soapy. Not much rhubarb in this.

2nd November 2017

yuk yuk yuk... Id tried the Edinburgh rhubarb gin and loved that. As I'd heard great things about the Whitely rhubarb gin I decided to try it. Cant stand it! Awful taste!

1st November 2017

Easily in my top 10!

Absolutely beautiful! I had it with tonic but I'm thinking soda water next time to let the sweetness come through.

26th October 2017

Not right

The mix of flavours doesn’t work and ginger is actually unplesent

26th October 2017

Best gin on the market!

Best gin on the market. Don’t ever stop making it!

21st October 2017

A bit weird, tastes nothing like rhubarb, not sure.

14th October 2017

Not what I expected.

Very strange! Tastes like Jelly Beans! Sorry - not to my taste. Regret buying this.

10th October 2017

5 stars for me

Omg just had this and it's amazing ..... Probably the best Gin I have ever tasted

4th October 2017

No rhubarb or ginger and flowery at first. The bite comes afterwards!

Not too sure on this one..... it tastes absolutely nothing like the Edinburgh Rhubarb and Ginger gin.
There's a very sweet, flowery / vanilla flavour (I think) behind the Whitley Neill gin but after a few mouthfuls, the bite of the ginger slowly comes through.
I tried it first of all with original tonic just so I could compare it to others I've tried.
I did try to find a "serves" suggestion on the website but to be perfectly honest, the website is too arty farty rather than giving you the information you really want to read - like, how to drink it!

28th September 2017

Fantastic taste with ginger ale and ice - totally recommend this drink. This is a totally amazing gin.

23rd September 2017

Not happy!

I am really sorry, it doesn't taste of rhubarb Or ginger,I feel something else is in this bottle and it certainly isn't what it says on the bottle!

17th September 2017

Love it!!

Love it!! Perfect on its own. Lovely fruit flavour with a lovely warmth as it goes down.

15th September 2017

Rhubarb Gin

Lovely fruity Gin, not the one for Tonic tho, Ginger beer with ice and a slice of lime & orange was my choice, delicious, my new fav 🙂

15th September 2017

Amazing tasting gin best I have ever tasted 😀

12th September 2017

Fresh, summery and delicious.

I'm joining the 'love it' band. It's fresh and light and makes a pleasant change. I drink it cold with tonic.

10th September 2017

Fabulous !!

Absolutely love this Gin , smooth , not to sweet ! My favourite !

2nd September 2017

Lovely gin with aromatic tonic with berries and a few strawberries supered

29th August 2017

Tastes synthetic, horribly like a frootshoot, really unpleasant in a G&T. Vile really. Very regretful of the £25 I spent on it.

27th August 2017

My favourite at the moment

It's interesting reading the reviews below. People seem to be in the 'love it' or 'hate it' brigade. I have to say I love it - it's probably my favourite gin at the moment. Like others I just drink it with tonic and ice.

26th August 2017

Nothing positive to say about this which is a real shame, the original Whitley Neill gin is a really easy pleasant everyday gin! Leave it be Whitley, flavours are not your strong point!

26th August 2017

A most enjoyable change

Very enjoyable with a refreshers type hit to the nose. There is much less of a bitter aftertaste that you can get. Very drinkable indeed.

24th August 2017

Love this gin!

I really love this gin and would say it's the best I've tasted! I think the sweetness takes away from the bitter taste gin can have and I absolutely love the smell! I've had a few flavoured gins from different manufacturers and in my opinion this one is the best! Anyone who doesn't like it can send the bottles to me!!!
(I'm just drinking it like a normal gin with tonic water and it's lovely!)

20th August 2017

Try it

I am hooked on this gin a great flavour its my favourite tipple.

20th August 2017

Beautiful with ginger beer

I adore this gin! Delicious with ginger beer (not ale) and a slice of lime - I can't get enough of the stuff.

14th August 2017

Lovely summer drink, neat or mixed with ginger ale

Fabulous gin served with a dash of dry ginger ale. Ive tried lots and lots and lots of gins but as a flavoured gin this is my favourite at the moment perfect for summer as a lovely no drnk or have it on its own it is delicious.

28th July 2017

Not even close to being good

Quite possibly the worst Gin I have ever tasted alongside Hoxton, if you want Rhubarb gin, Slingsby is the only way. Yorkshire after all is famous for its Rhubarb.

25th July 2017

You must try this - divine!

Absolutely gorgeous. Serve with a slice of Apple.. divine taste. My favourite gin at the moment & Ive tried a.lot!

15th July 2017

Unsophisticated and mildly unpleasant

Disappointing - both synthetic flavour and bitter aftertaste only expunged but adding lots of sweetness. Infinitely prefer the Edinburgh Gin version.

11th July 2017

Fruity Gin liqueur

This is delicious if you drink it neat as you would a liqueur or with ginger ale.
The ginger kick melds beautifully with the rhubarb sweetness and makes it dangerously more-ish.

10th July 2017

Floral and unique

Got as a small sample as part of my Craft Gin Club box and it is lovely. Will definitely be buying the full bottle. Lovely stuff.

8th July 2017

Very smooth and tastes great with ginger ale and mint.

7th July 2017

Lovely easy to drink

Tasted at a local gin Festival. My favourite of the moment, but I do have a sweet tooth!

24th June 2017

Shocking....belongs in a cocktail bar!!!!

21st June 2017

Love it!

Discovered this at a Gin Festival on Saturday, two bottles purchased immediately! It is very 'fruity' so not everyone's idea of gin, could be dangerous tho, as it's very easy to drink....

5th June 2017

A bit of gin in a sweet shop fun.

A pleasant, fun gin. A lingering biscuity taste, if a little synthetic. The Corner shop sweets flavour actually is part of the enjoyment, expected with the colour of the bottle, hardly expect it to be a refined product! Good with light FT tonic or Ginger ale.

3rd June 2017

Great value & a flavour sensation

My favourite gin at the moment. Absolutely love it ! Served with a slice of orange & Fevertree Mediterranean tonic. Will definitely try with coriander though ❤️

26th May 2017

So bad that I'm burying the bottle in the garden so the bin men don't see it

This is vile. We've assembled a collection of 50+ gins over the years, and along with Hoxton this is my least favourite yet. It tastes like cheap corner shop sweets. And not just slightly. It's so pungent that only a shower and a toothbrush will excommunicate its aroma. I opened it last night. Tonight I put the empty glass in the dishwasher, and it still reeked of its overpowering and sickly sweet odour.
