Truffle Gin

The Cambridge Distillery love a good bit of boundary-pushing, and they've done it again with their Truffle Gin, made using white truffle from Alba! Rich and subtly savoury, this is fascinating stuff indeed.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Thyme, a hint of dried citrus peels, menthol and petrichor.

Palate Oily juniper, black pepper and continued earthy notes. Almost savoury at points!

Finish Herbaceous notes of basil leaf and lemongrass last.

Reviews for Truffle Gin
One for those who want to remember siphoning petrol from the car
Foul. If you manage to get past the nose, which continues to smell of rotting woodland which has been poured over with petrol - no matter how much tonic you add - then you’ll be disappointed by an oily taste, reminiscent of old garages but with no gin or truffles in sight. Spend the money on several cans of Dr Squid or Engine instead, or in fact any gin...

Truffle Shuffle
What a revelation! This amazing hybrid of two of my favourite things is to die for. Very different from anything else you’ll try in the Gin market but somehow balances the Truffle and Juniper to utter perfection!

Works very well with Vermouth
OK my review was the one below with three stars - brief update: works very well with Vermouth in cocktails, so go for gin/vermouth variations instead, then the truffle becomes quite light on the nose which is an excellent variation

Truffle-y deliciousness!
I LOVE this gin! Very unusual, quite delicate, but absolutely superb. The nose is quite pronounced on the truffle. Really complex. You could smell it for ages. On the palate, it's the texture that really takes me by surprise. It's got quite a lot of juniper and other spicy, peppery notes. But all handled very carefully. Balanced - unlike so many other gins. Definitely worth the money.

This is incredible!
One of the best and definitely the most unique gin I have ever tasted. These guys know what they are doing!

Amazing!
I can't believe this gin works. I was a bit dubious when I saw it, but it totally works. It smells delicately of white truffles but then in the mouth it tastes of... well, gin! Really amazing. Going to enjoy this after dinner.

Truffle and alcohol clash a bit in my personal opinion
Not really sure about this one - I had high hopes, given I love both gin and truffles generally, however the truffle and the alcohol collide both on the nose and the palate, giving this gin a rather 'petrol-like' character overall.

Good if you want to have some diversity in your spirits cabinet and you cover the 10+ other available styles already, but doesn't really work straight and in the G&Ts I have tried (I didn't do any cocktails with it though).
