Tarquin’s Cornish Gin Bottling Note

An exotic, world spanning botanical basket makes Tarquin's Gin. Orris root from Morocco, green cardamom seeds from Guatemala, cinnamon from Madagascar and Devon violets from... Well, from the distiller's garden in Cornwall.

Southwestern Distillery produce small batches of their artisan Tarquin's Gin using their flame-fired copper pot still called Tamara, goddess of the Tamar. It's then bottled by hand and sent off into the world, to spread the news that Cornwall is producing some fabulous gin.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Lively with juniper, cardamom and a sweet breeze of orange blossom.

Palate: Incredibly fresh, with energetic but reserved green pine notes.

Finish: Crisp and dry, with a tasty spice that lasts.

Overall: Excellent Cornish gin. Tamara would be proud.

Simply love it!!!

Delicious. Perfect blend.

A fantastic gin and goes extremely well with grapefruit peel

6th June 2020

Beautifully Cornish

If this gin was a representation of Cornwall, then it is summed up nicely. Very fresh and smooth with a tonic water and slice of lime.

20th April 2020

Amazingly smooth... amazingly easy to drink!

A beautiful gin in a world of mass production.
Very smooth and could be drunk neat with a little ice to really enjoy the delicate flavour.
Makes a fantastic gin martini!

Perfect with ice

After a bombardment of Cornish gins on the market I have taken my "research" very seriously and can confirm and agree with my earlier comments under Divine! from 4 years ago . Simply the best.

Fantastic gin. So smooth

A very smooth and flavourful gin.

2nd August 2017

good especially with water

An excellent gin which is good with tonic but to really enjoy add just a little ice and water - heaven

18th July 2017

Falls short.

It's ok, but that's all and certainly not up where the price would suggest. A shame really, it seemed to have so much to offer and is local to me.

24th May 2017

A great gin for £20 sadly it is £35

I agree with some of the other reviewers. This is a perfectly good gin but the only outstanding attribute is the bottle. Beefeater will do the job as well for far less buck!

omg divine what else is there to say!!!!

Absolutely amazing only needs a non flavoured tonic we used fentimans original so does not tarnish the gin

I love the Pastis from these guys, but the gin just doesn't quite have the same impact. Compared to the other gins in my collection - which there are a lot (50+) it is just lacking in some respects, not as smooth as some other craft gins and the flavour isn't quite there for me. Not bad for a G&T and the bottle looks nice, but not good enough for a martini.

Absolutely fabulous flavour cool and crisp with Fever Tree tonic!

8th April 2016

A really fantastic gin...take neat or with Fevertree & hard ice.
Top of my tasting list so far...congratulations on an excellent product.
Acker rating 5/5

a beautiful Gin especially mixed with Fevertree Tonic the after taste stays on your tongue and it's a fabulous taste you won't forget or want to. The aroma is heavenly you must smell it before you pour in the tonic.

This is by far and away one of the best Gins I have had the pleasure of tasting

21st August 2015

This is a delicious gin but you cannot drink it with ordinary tonic! I would recommend Fevertree tonic and a rose petal garnish to appreciate it at it's best!

4th August 2015

Really rather lovely!

I have the advent calendar and today I've been treated to Tarquin! Very nice gin. Only on day 4, and with 20 more to try, so don't feel I can rate higher than an 8!

4th December 2014

I wanted to love this gin. Coming from a tiny distiller in Cornwall from a guy who obviously has a passion or it. It's smooth with a hint of citrus but to be honest thats it. To justify its premium price it has to offer something different and I'm afraid it doesn't. Give me a rangpur or Ophir for something genuinely different for less money.

18th November 2014

This is a nice Gin...But there are many NICE Gin's for less money than this. I was expecting something special and therefore disappointed. It does not do what it says on the tin. No hints of violet to be seen. Its fine to mix but will not be going anywhere near my Martini. If you want something special get a bottle of Dr. J's Gin....

25th October 2014

A wonderful clean smell and taste with delicate after tones of violets. Too gorgeous for tonic!

6th August 2014

A triumph!

Deliciously smooth, this gin is sublime simply on its own, on the rocks. Quality tonic optional and very refreshing.

9th July 2014

I tried this in Hong Kong. Great to see great gin when abroad...

12th June 2014

Super refreshing, a very clean finish.

27th May 2014

18th December 2013

Excellent gin

Fresh and crisp, with a nicely rounded flavour of juniper, pine, orange blossom and a hint of violets. Makes an excellent martini and a great G&T. Highly recommended.
