Wait - what's this? A dessert-ready gin reminiscent of a slice of lemon drizzle cake?
It's certainly an interesting idea, but let's just see if it all adds up:
Cake = Good
Gin = Good.
Hm. Everything seems in order so far. In the current climate of relentless gin-innovation, Sipsmith have only gone and used cake.
Except, this is actually not a new concept. You can trace this style of gin back to the 1930s, and it enjoyed wide popularity in the 1950s and 60s.
Sipsmith's Lemon Drizzle Gin is very much a homage to this understated aspect of gin history. It relied on the combined expertise of Master Distiller Jared Brown and Head Distiller Ollie Kitson to create a suitable recipe, with multiple different lemon additions.
You want dried lemon peels? It's got 'em.
Vapour-infused freshly peeled lemon? Got 'em.
A fresh lemon twist for every bottle? Got 'em.
Lemon verbena sourced directly from Master Distiller Jared Brown’s garden? You better believe its got 'em
Fresh, tart and warming, the lemon is powerful, but is tempered well by savoury juniper, a pang of liquorice and a floral perfume quality that lifts it.
Absolutely stunning, delicious from the very first taste. On the rocks best- why dilute perfection?
I bought this as a treat to myself but all I can taste is a waxy taste like the seal. Can’t taste any lemon. Quite disappointing when you’ve been saving out from a pension
If you buy this expecting lemon drizzle flavour, you will be disappointed. If you buy this Gin and like a refreshing lemon hit followed by bitter sweet after taste and a sharp zesty twang, this Gin is for you. It works better when mixed with other citrus flavours in my opinion, but worth keeping in the cabinet. 7/10
Do not buy this, it’s just lemon gin and does not taste like lemon drizzle!! Over priced and there are far better gins out there!! Don’t waste your money!!!
Nice initially but has a pithy bitter aftertaste.
