Old Tom Gin from the land of Uncle Sam. Produced in Oregon, U.S.A., this Old Tom Gin is made by the artisan distillery Ransom, titled to represent the investment it takes to become self employed.
The company began as a labour of love, producing grappa, eaux-de-vie and eventually spirits. Although it took a while to get to, the Ransom Old Tom is still made with dedication. Using a recipe developed in collaboration with spirits historian David Wondrich and aged for three to six months in wine barrels, it's properly perfect for a Tom Collins.
It's also been very well received at competitions, as the Ransom Old Tom Gin has won gold medals at the 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the 2013 San Diego Spirits Festival.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose Zesty citrus excitedly leaps out from the glass, followed by fresh pine, juniper and rich honey.
Palate Bright juniper and pine once again. Rather floral at points. The cardamom notes develop over time.
Finish Malty and alive with orange. Cedarwood pops up right at the end.
Overall Ransom Old Tom is packed with well balanced flavours and is very, very cool indeed.
