Made to the original Pickering's Gin recipe recorded in India in 1947 the nine botanicals are juniper, coriander, cardamom, fennel, anise, lemon, lime, cloves and cinnamon (in place of the angelica used in regular Pickering's).
Dried lime peels at first, though it soon enough develops a core of chopped green herbs.
Soft and creamy, and quite Christmas-y too! Cinnamon, clove and fruit notes result in an almost mince pie-like flavour profile.
Remains festively sweet, with a crackle of peppery juniper right on the tail.
A lovely gin which I enjoy with a pink peppercorn tonic
Really amazing gin and have to agree with Pickering's recommendation to try it with some ginger ale!
Really great gin. Very different to a lot of others that are out there, really flavoursome. Tastes of cinnamon and cloves.
The 1947 by Pickering's is an absolute stand out gin. As they say, it's distilled to an old Bombay recipe written down in 1947 - hence the name. I've never sipped anything like it. We all know the joys of indian spice blended & balanced in cuisine but this that joy in gin. It mixes well with Fevertree Naturally Light - as this is a slightly sweeter gin the dry light tonic pairs perfectly.
