Kirkjuvagr Orkney Gin Bottling Note

An 'unmistakably Orcadian' gin made with locally grown botanicals including Ramanas Rose, Burnet Rose, Angelica and Borage. The inclusion of Angelica was inspired by a story that suggested Angelica was brought to the Orkney islands by Norsemen, and can still be found growing there. Further connection to Orkney's heritage comes from the name, Kirkjuvagr, which means 'Church Bay' in Old Norse.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Peppery juniper and salty sea air (salt and pepper is a classic combo, after all...), floral dandelion.

Palate: Candied peels, coriander. A bit perfume-y in spots.

Finish: Drying spice, vanilla-y angelica and a resurgence of sea spray salinity.

Kirkjuvagr Orkney Gin Reviews

Kirkjuvagr Orkney Gin

Not at all bad but slightly uninspiring, this does sit better with a flavoured tonic but certainly not a sipping gin.

Delicate flavours and deliciously smooth. Beautifully presented if you want to give it as a gift as we do from time to time.

Sublime! One of the best Scottish gins you can buy.

Beautiful, smooth gin, even when sampled neat!

Smooth, with a floral hint, but mainly a warm discreet spice finish and nice citrus edge to the flavour.

Lovely gin, very smooth

To taste, this gin has hints of rose, borage, and a vague hint of the sea. Juniper is also prevalent, with a lovely pine note in the background. There's a sweet orange citrus burst in there too.

A wonderful complex gin, that we enjoy with Fentimans tonic, ice and a slice of orange

Smooth, refreshing and beautiful in a martini

Absolutely love this gin!

At 43%, it is incredibly smooth, and offers a beautiful sweet finish when garnished with a twist of orange zest.

Tried it with Fever Tree tonic, and works really well. Also tried as a martini - absolutely perfect!

Kirkjuvagr Gin

Smells good taste not bad but not great either, tastes like a typical run of the mill gin.

Ssmooth ..

I took this gin home to Australia, and shared it amongst my fellow ginnys. Loved by all with comments from its smoothness and how it can be taken neat. My only regret is that i brought home just one bottle .... i cant go back to drinking the more commercial varieties now ...

Flavoursome and smooth

Loved this with Fever Tree med tonic - packed with flavour and very smooth

Smooth, fantastic in a martini

Thoroughly enjoyed this gin! It is really smooth, and you can easily sip over ice with just a garnish, or in a martini. A nice, simple tonic such as Fever Tree Indian works nicely with this one, with or without the recommended orange rind garnish

Summer and Orkney in a Gin!

A delicious light gin for making into a long drink for the summer or a warm evening. Tasty neat too. If you like your gin spicy or acidic it's subtle flavourings aren't for you, however, if you like it light and flowery then I would recommend you give this a try. As I like to support independent gin producers, this will be replacing Bloom when I want a long drink. It needs a tonic that hasn't been messed about with because of the subtle notes, I would go with fever-tree natural or 1724, put something else if you wish, but you will loose Kirkjuvagr's beauty.
