The Macallan Whisky distillery
A legacy of positive action
Nurturing our estate
The Macallan story begins on a 485-acre estate. This area of exceptional natural beauty supports a rich and varied ecosystem. It’s not just the rolling hills the distillery is located in that’s green, but The Macallan’s approach to protect its local environment.
Its Habitat Management Plan ensures the protection of the many species of wildlife and plants while committing to making its estate passenger vehicle fleet 100% electric in a few years.
Distilling inspired by nature
The Macallan's relationship with farming, water, and forests is vital to its time-honoured whisky making process that is truly sustainable by design.
Fusing traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art-engineering allows the team to achieve exceptional water and energy efficiency rates. Natural by-products from distillation processes are repurposed, and the energy comes from renewable and non-fossil fuel sources.
Progressive packaging principles
For years, The Macallan have worked with a quiet dedication to evolve packaging and material - sourcing principles that will minimise the environmental impact and make the recycling of their distinctive packaging as seamless as possible for consumers.
Sustainable supply networks
The Macallan is committed to sustaining the forests where it sources the wood for its casks and the fields where it sources its barley.
The exceptional oak casks are the brand's single greatest contributor to the character of its whisky. As such, The Macallan invests more time, effort, and resources in wood than any other single malt, and are continuously looking at ways to make this process more sustainable.
Giving back
The Macallan has thrived for nearly 200 years as a local brand with a global presence. This is because of the remarkable communities which continue to support the brand both at home in Scotland and around the world. Giving back to the communities has always been fundamental to who The Macallan are.
Fusing traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art engineering, this allows the team to achieve exceptional water and energy efficiency rates. Natural by-products from distillation processes are repurposed, and the energy comes from renewable and non-fossil fuel sources.
