Aphro

Aphro is a Ghanaian distillery that specialises in palm spirits, drinks made from the sap of palm trees that are enjoyed across the globe, but are particularly popular in West Africa. To create palm spirits, sap is collected from the palm tree and then filtered before being left to ferment. In the West African heat this process can happen quickly, with some fermentations reaching up to 1% ABV in a matter of hours. You can drink the fermented liquid, known as palm wine, but to make palm spirit you leave the sap to ferment for up to ten days and then distil it.

In Ghana palm spirits are called Akpeteshie, and Aphro creates two products to a bespoke recipe that blends fruit and spices. The Moor is infused with a selection of spices including ginger, while The Nubi is infused with pineapple, passion fruit, and honey.
