Hennessy XO

The term XO was coined for this very Cognac by Maurice Hennessy in the 19th century, and it was first bottled in 1870 for family and friends. This blend is composed of over 100 eaux-de-vie from the Grande and Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois regions. A rich, spicy, complex and truly historical Cognac, destined to be had alongside a cigar.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose A rich, fruity palate with prunes, Corinth raisins and sticky toffee pudding.

Palate Dark chocolate and over-ripe plums. A little sultana character, cocoa butter and spice.

Finish Spicy, vanilla-led finish with all kinds of dark fruits.

Camus XO Is Way Better.
Camus XO (both) blows all of these XOs away with layered complexity and flavours but Hennessy XO used to be my go to, but not any more after the price hikes as that left a bitter sweet taste in my mouth.

My go to for almost any occasion
This is smooth, rich and beautiful. It has the feel of armagnac in the way it has the classic Hennessy kick at the end.

This in a hip flask on the beating line is superb. Or just for when sitting and relaxing in the countryside. Ideally an outside drink as the fresh air opens your airways and releases more of the complexity of the drink.

Renowned as the best xo. The depth, complexity and smoothness is on another level. Keep coming back to this one over Remy, Martel etc. Highly recommend.

Average at best
Over hyped. Over priced. Better off going independent brands like De Luze, Prunier or Godet. Far better value.

Not a great experience
Disappointed. Not as complexed as I remember. Very expensive these days for what it is.

OK
Nothing special at all, and no way does it taste 4 times better than Hennessy VSOP (just saying that as it is 4 times more costly). Prefer Courvoisier XO by a long chalk.

Still, cognac is the boy though. And i am just one human, so my opinion alone is just that and potentially meaningless to another.

Better than most
Whom ever compared this to the dom perignon of cognacs obviously has no idea what he is on about. I have tried the other cognacs he has mentioned and are like paint/throat stripper in comparrison. Do not be put off by ignorance. This is like velvet and far more complex than most on the market.
