Talisker Dark Storm 1l Bottling Note

Originally released for the Travel Retail market, Talisker's Dark Storm is matured in heavily charred oak casks, imparting yet more smoke and spice to the already intensely smoky whisky. A fantastic release from the distillery on the Isle of Skye.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Smoky bacon, black pepper and red chili, dressed with a touch of orchard fruit and golden malt.

Palate: Huge oak influence, with a big burst of smoke on palate entry. Beyond that, though, you find red fruit, citrus and fresh honey.

Finish: A very, very long finish, peppered with honey-roasted nuts.

Talisker Dark Storm 1l Reviews

Not for beginners ;)

Its very strong tasting... but has a unique characteristic which pulls you.

Big punchy malt for beginners to try

I stumbled across this in duty free and have always loved Talisker but prefer Islay malts. Very smoky and peaty with lots of pepper and chilli but lots of honey and dried fruit and nuts flavour. A little harsh so dash of water suggested but amazing lingering flavour that just gets better and salty taste kicks in. Doesn't send me into rapture like Laphroaig 18yo as disappointing nose but great mouth feel and really lingers

Tremendous tast, a must on your bucket list.

I purchased this at a duty free store while traveling abroad, I am so glad I did. When I returned home and opened the bottle it was magnificent. If you have a chance to try this single malt, fans of Lagavulin 16 year single malt will love it.

A++++++

The dogs bollocks. Spot on

22nd September 2017

Does not live up to Talisker's high standards

Somewhat disappointing. Appears to contain young whiskies judging from the harshness at the back of the throat. Drinkable but not your classic Talisker. Stick to the age statement bottlings.

Inderdaad Jack, not for boys!!

5 stars!!!!!!

The Smokiest Talisker that is..

I think this tastes amazing.. If you like Islay whiskies and if you like standar Talisker you will like this. If you dont like young Islays, you probably wont like this.

Its the pepperiest spicyest Talisker ever, and its the smokiest.... This whisky compete with the smokiest whiskies on Islay as Laphroaig or Ardbeg.

For me at a right price in dutyfree its a must have buy, but not for the price on this site.

If you can get to a boat or a planetrip, and you like smokiest whiskies, then this is one to look for.
Im sure its a bit young, 6-8 years I dont know, but the heavily charred casks works well...

A smoky monster from the Isle of Skye

Moo-ho-haah! A monster is coming in a dark storm... My wife bought it at Gatwick. Lucky me...

Nose: Smoky bacon, ok, pepper and light hints of oranges. Sweet fruit.

Palate: Huge oak influence and a wave of smoke. Fruit, oranges, honey.

Finish: Pepper. Very long. Sweet honey-roasted nuts, hints of smoke. More pepper.

A small teaspoon of water opens more of the fruity stuff, the oranges, and the whisky becomes smoother and sweeter. I also find some metallic hints of a younger whisky, maybe 6-7 years if I should guess. Maybe...

Wow... What a tasteful, delicious dram. The most smoky Talisker I've tasted.

Very good! But... I don't want any NAS product to replace the Talisker 10 Year Old. Traditions and pride, and costumers (!), are very important for every whisky distillery.

Interesting

I wasn't sure about this whiskey when i bought it but after a few drinks it has definitely grown on me and is great for a NAS.

On the palate, an oakiness that changes quickly to mmokiness, peat, a chilli sort of spiciness that bites the tongue, then, saltiness and iodine like you were at the seaside and then, a fleeting sweetness (dark fruits? honey?). A NAS done right in my books.

great whiskey!!

truly amazing and spicey talisker whiskey.

colin paton

absolutely delicious whisky. love the long finish and the tingle of the pepperiness. you can really taste the smoky peat from it too. a classic

23rd December 2016

A lovely island dram

A lovely dram with a delicious touch of fruit to go with the Talisker pepper

6th December 2016

Very Love/Hate it seems

I prefer Islay scotches to most. Ardbeg Uigeadail is my favorite closely followed by Ardbeg's Corryvreckan. Two different animals of the same species that must be tried. Talisker is probably my third favorite distillery (after Ardbeg and Laphroaig) and this *might* be in the same league as my top picks.

It has hair on its chest for sure. It is not a smooth well groomed gentleman with clean fingernails (Glenmorangie Extremely Rare 18); more of a highly successful and incredibly confident fishing fleet owner who can walk from his dark mahogany desk straight to the dock and work harder than anyone in his employ.

I see it as a true man's drink, complex and individualistic, refined yet rugged.

this is heaven

the crocodile charred cask give that heavenly smoke, and indeed the smoky bacon.Above all you can smell and
taste the sea, this is realy a seaside malt. With a (little)water it opens up and than the fruit kicks in.The finish is
long and complex. Not to much water though,or you will drown this beautiful seaside malt. The price was great too,I paid only €45,00 for a liter bottle.I bought two more bottles today.Do I feel lucky, yes I do.!!!

One of my favorites!

Very strange all those bad reviews. Some people really can't appreciate one of the best whisky's ever.
Became a whisky lover six years ago and this is one of the best so far.Definitely top three.

Mr.T.

crossing the Border between US and Canada pick up a bottle to try and just loved the finish taste

Mr Gerald Rice

I'm 75 years old and two weeks ago my wife and I went on a cruise on the Queen Victoria. We went on a whisky tasting and of the five we tried this one suited us best. The slightly smokey, caramel taste left a very pleasent tingling sensation on the palate which we enjoyed without water, hence the five stars.

26th September 2016

Appropriate Name

Great whisky overall. Dark, smoky, peaty, full bodied and very long finish. Perfect whisky for relaxing in your library with a cigar, or discussing politics with your cronies (lol). The long slow burn on the finish may be too much for some palates.

Absolutely the best whisky I have tasted I'm 60 odd so I have had a few. Suits me to perfection. Please do not change anything!!!

3rd August 2016

Salty peatiness

For me, one word describes this whisky ... 'sublime'. Straight up in a slightly warmed glass, on the first sip, there is a saltiness...followed by strong smoke and peat. The initial saltiness gives way to a sweetness, almost like salted caramel on the taste buds. A lingering burn to finish. I will most certainly be buying again.

31st July 2016

Amazing!

Love the extra smokiness and the flavours!

30th July 2016

Talisker Dark Storm

Good but not really up to taliskers of old eg 14 yr old. Needs a bit of water. Scotch is based on the year so don't understand this change in branding, go back to yr please

16th July 2016

El Morenito

Very polarizing. You either love it or hate it. I do enjoy Laphroaig, but this is like drinking burnt wood. Peat and smoke overkill for me.

14th July 2016

Really tasty smokiness!

Love it! Amazing smokiness with spices and some dried fruits on the side. Nice long finish. Recommend!

12th June 2016

Ajay Chavan

The most tastiest whisky ever.

8th June 2016

Interesting and original

The charred cascs give an appealing, strange and rich complexity. A warm twilight.

18th May 2016

Jack Rawlinson

Absolutely flabbergasted by the poor reviews here. It's like some of you are drinking a different whisky, or maybe you just DON'T like big dirty beasts. You people should play it safe and tick to Macallan and Glenmorangie. This has huge flavour and punch; rough around the edges in the best way; you can actually taste the char; a whisky for men, not boys.

16th May 2016

Dr Eric Lilford

An inspiring taste on a cold day, providing heart-warming tones to the olfactory system and taste buds. Long yet light after-taste typical of light oak-oils. A most pleasing dram.

15th May 2016

Exquisite scotch

If you enjoyed Talisker Storm you will fall for Dark Storm

9th May 2016

Low - price/quality

It's too expensive for its quality.

27th February 2016

Rubbish

Save your money, this isn't worth the bottle it comes in. Not sure I will even finish mine. Commits all three cardinal sins of mass production distilling (more the fool me buying it): caramel colouring, chill filtering, no age statement. Smoky but no depth or subtlety, no finish to speak of. Very disappointing from such a high calibre distiller.

23rd February 2016

Disappointing

Talisker do know how to make a good whisky so I really don't understand why they came up with this...

20th February 2016

Very good

A more fullbodied Talisker with more depth and smokiness. Not for everyone but i freakin' loved it.

31st January 2016

Peppery

I guess it's all about taste (of the reviewer rather than the drink). Not my favourite by some way, but it is nice to sip a couple of small glasses. Bought it also it was on offer at the airport. Smoky with hints of black pepper and a touch of chili. One plus for me is it's not as "medicinal" tasting as some Smoky whiskys.

30th January 2016

Very disappointing

Talisker 10 is my favourite go-to single malt, so I had high hopes when I bought Dark Storm on impulse at the airport. Sadly it is an absolute dog of a drink. It is extremely smoky which I like, but there is just no depth or subtlety whatsoever. Save your money and get the 10 year old, or spend a little more and get the 18 year old which is to die for!

10th January 2016

Not my favourite

I have enjoyed Talisker in the past but had I been able to taste Dark Storm at Edinburgh Airport I would not have bought it. The burnt smokey taste overpowers the real whisky taste and I still have more than half a bottle undrunk. Maybe just my palette but I wouldn't buy this one again (sorry).

6th January 2016

Quite Good

Unmistakably a talisker whisky but extremely smokey, more so then the standard storm even. As a frequent drinker of laphroig, this serves as a nice change of pace. It satisfies my desire for smokiness while remaining light.

25th December 2015

smoketastic

Tried this in London and was won over by the brilliance of it not being like everything else out there. Warms to the core, nothing fancy, but very tasty. I will buy this again and again.

26th August 2015

Underrated

As a whisky drinker Talisker is a deep love of mine, in fact it brought me and my girlfriend closer! When I fist tasted this malt, I wasn't a fan and felt disappointed. A couple of months ago I decided to try it again, and I felt something different. It isn't complex and I'll admit it lacks the Talisker edge, but I find something delightfully tasteful in this whisky. The charred cask provided another breath into our ever growing Scotch industry.

7th August 2015

Its not bad...

Smoky, you get it at a nice price at travel retail ( at least I did ;) ) , and it is obviously a Talisker.
Compared to a Talisker 10 I think it is different, but quite Ok. Not really bad. It is a modern no age statement whisky, showing good taste design but lacking depth. Even compared to the 10 year. Ddint talk about the 18 year here, which plays in a different league, even is a completely different game.
Dont buy NAS!
Ok, Talisker, you missed to produce enough good stuff the last 20 years.
You want market share and revenue now. My opinion: better stick to quality, wait a few years and then harvest!
No, in fact if you love Talisker and love whisky this is not the way to go.

5th May 2015

Dissapointed

I absolutely adore Talisker 10 - probably my favourite - but this lacks the depth, complexity and balance. There's also the overpowering fiery burnt oak, borderline harsh - in the middle. Perhaps my love of the 10 spoiled this one for me ?

4th May 2015

A dark disappointment

I've always liked Talisker 10 yo. but this is one unbalanced whisky - 100% bs from Talisker. why are they ruining their name is beyond me. release it as a younger whisky in the same vein as the 10 year old - even a 5 year old Talisker would be better if it was un chillfiltered with no colouring added. it may be feisty but not unbalanced. see the light stay away from dark storm
