Speyside 29 Year Old 1995 (Thompson Bros.)
A single malt Scotch whisky distilled in 1995 at the Speyside Distillery and aged for 29 years in a refill sherry butt before Thompson Bros. filled 488 bottles at 51.7% ABV without chill-filtration or additional colouring. The bottle label artwork is from Whisky Hobo.
Tasting Note by The Producer
Nose
Plum and wild strawberry, cinnamon, nutmeg, tomato leaves, umeshu, maple wood, dried red berries, pink grapefruit! Delightfully (surprisingly?) tropical, with green mangos coming out. Blood orange and a little bit of rubber.
Palate
Cranberry, fruit cake, those giant strawberries that you get in pick and mixes. Pink grapefruit again. There’s that earthy, woody, funky note that only really comes from a long time in refill sherry. Mushrooms that have been covered in brown miso paste.
Finish
Quite long. Some nice sherry spice at the end, maybe even something a little Christmassy.
