Contradiction is an apt name for this tasty bourbon from West Virginia's Smooth Ambler. It's made with a blend of sourced old rye-heavy bourbon and younger wheated bourbon made by the Smooth Ambler folks themselves! Combined, these two whiskeys have created a harmonious bourbon packed full of chocolatey, honey-rich bourbon.
Smooth Ambler made a change to Contradiction in mid-2018, with the bottling strength being reduced from 50% to 46% - it most certainly remains simply stunning stuff.
Aromas of oak, runny honey, clove and fragrant allspice, with a lovely combo of brown sugar and cocoa.
Initially soft with touches of sweet and sticky honey and molasses, though gradually builds to stronger spicy notes.
Long, spicy, sweet and oaky.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable libation. Being be.ow that 100 proof level allows us to enjoy this wonderful bourbon with just a touch of ice. Also not this in a Manhattan ( I know, sacrilege). Keep up the fine work....
1st taste I got heavy alcohol front and nots of very You fruits but I’m going to let this juice sit for a min on a thick chunk of clear ice and see what happens...on 2nd it obviously opened and gave me sweet saw dust and VERY light caramel which I enjoy but it def took the you aggressive edge off off the first taste....by third taste it’s another being, sweet caramel, honey, light smoke, pinch of cinnamon and a touch of allspice but not enough to describe it as such. Higher proofs are more difficult for me to arrange an accurate note list but this one has potential to be special. If you could hold on to this bad boy for a year and give it another run you could have a bit of magic in your bar. Don’t love where it’s at right now but can not wait for where it’s headomg. Will have this distiller high on my list
