Superb single malt from a secret Speyside distillery. As you might have guessed from the name, Olorosum is a splendidly sherried affair. The 10-year-old single malt was treated to an extremely generous finish in oloroso sherry casks before being bottled up without added colour or chill filtration at a hearty 54.7% ABV. With a smartly waxed top (how did they make it slanted like that?!) and a black and gold label that gives off some rather suave Art Deco vibes, it looks as stunning as it tastes.
Superbly sherried, with burnt sugar, golden syrup, and milk chocolate. Candied pecans and festive chocolate liqueurs follow while drying old oak nestles in the depths.
Big and bold with vanilla fudge and boozy dried fruits opening the way for sweet, nutty malt. Chocolate raisins and Brazil nuts follow, with notes of wood polish and brandy snaps.
A dense finish, with drying oak and aged fruit cake, toasted spices, and minced pies.

A lot of alcohol, sherry, hey and even an age statement seems too good to be true for the special offer price. Catch is the flavour is a bit two dimensional. Don't expect the depths of flavour you'll get from the big hitters in Scottish sherried whisky but you'll not be buying them for 40 quid either so....
Really like this, everything you would expect from oloroso
Not as sherried as I'd expected. However, I had been drinking the Wormtub whiskies so perhaps a bit unfair to compare. This whisky has a drier finish and is not quite as sweet. It was smooth and I've enjoyed the drams I've had but Wormtubs are better.
The balance of this 10 year old and the high alcohol content just doesn’t work. This whisky needs another 5 years in the cask in order to be more rounded.
A very decent solid and balanced dram, heavy sherry body and stands up well against bottles twice the price
