Laphroaig 15YO Bottling Note

In 1815, the Laphroaig distillery was founded on Islay. In 2015, the distillery celebrates its 200th anniversary. To mark the occasion, they've brought back their 15 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky for a limited edition release!

The Laphroaig 15 Year Old was first released in the 1980s, though it was eventually replaced with the Laphroaig 18 Year Old. But now, in celebration of their bicentenary, they're giving you a chance to get your hands on a bottle of their 15 Year Old single malt once again...

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Laphroaig 15 Year Old (200th Anniversary Edition) Reviews

Fabulous 15 Year Old.

My husband and I love the 15 year old Laphroaig. It is a bit smoother than the ten, but keeps enough the edginess of the iodine and peat so you know you are not drinking the eighteen. We wish they would continue making it--we only have one bottle left.

A great whisky. bought 2.

10th October 2018

First fruity but then comes a smoky finnish

Wow this whisky did surprise me, I like it more then the 18-year old but I'm not sure it's worth double the money of the 10 year old :)

Definitely not Laphroaig 10

I recently found a bottle of this on the shelf near me. Absolutely delicious. I'm sorry that this won't be available going forward. Absolutely delicious balance of fruits, smoke, and some salt. Perfection.

Fantastic and fruity

More fruity than the 10 year old, more mellow. A more reasonable abv than the abv for both the 10 year old and the 18 year old. A big whisky.

Mango, citrus, banana, vanilla, peat smoke, seaweed, apples, some antiseptical hints... Maturity. A cooling mint in the background. Pepper corns, sweet ash from bonfires at the beach and then seaspray on the lips.

I whish it could have been an unlimited version..:)- Mmm...

More subtle than expected

After having the Laphroaig 10 yo cask strength which tastes something like smoked meat caked in salt, I was mentally prepared for disappointment, but it turns out this is much more drinkable. It does have those hints of saltiness but it's controlled. Pretty darn good.

Very good !!

Was able to purchase two bottles while in Holland in March and finally opened on tonight. Well worth the effort and price.

Not as complex as the 18 but. to me, a big and significant whiskey. Sorry to see it is becoming less available.

Isn't Lap just great ??

going for it

to come, post-wedding choice, father of Groom, getting this as part of a collection of 8 single malts for guest-aficionados. Will review once tested.

Actually prefer the 10

It is no doubt good, but I actually prefer the less sweet, more peaty and medicinal 10 year old. For me the quarter cask is too much peat, this one is not enough and the 10 is the perfect balance.

Better than the best

Tasted it. Bought 5.

9th April 2016

5 Star

a very inviting tasting malt liquor never take it off the shelf. Definitely a five star scotch whiskey.

22nd December 2015

The last one

I bought the last one in stock in Norway, and I will save it as a trophy for many years. Lucky me...

My brother tasted this whisky earlier this year, and I believe him this time..:)- It's a big whisky!

Real Stunner

This is wonderful Laphroaig worth every penny.

15th October 2015

It is quality

It's better than the 10yo, in fact, it rates right up there with Lagavulin. I love it with ice, very smooth, complex, unique, bright, almost salty, tiny sips on the rocks work best, pretty good straight too.

Very Good Indeed!

Have loved the Lap 10 . . . now especially love the 15.
This is a darker, richer LOOKING version, with the same peaty punch but with, perhaps, a little more sweetness than the 10 yo. But in my opinion, it is not worth the 30% price increase over the Lap 10. NO way. It is very good indeed, but so is the 10 year old. Glad they made this, but it is hard to improve on the perfection that is Laphroaig 10.

If you like laphroaig, you'll love this. A brilliant whisky!
Not quite as complex as the 18, "which makes sense" though this is probably slightly smoother and the 18 is pretty smooth. The flavour profile is rich and sweet. Quality stuff.

I love Laphroaig. All of them. This one is my new favorite. It has all the big, in your face flavors; just smoother. It really is delicious. I hope it's around for a while. I'm going to want another bottle soon.

15th September 2015

I hold the 18 yo very high but this one is making a good run for the top position. Still quite smooth for a Laphroaig and for a whisky this powerful and peaty. Truly recommend it.

Very good

In my opinion, this is MUCH better than the 10 year old. The 10 has nice features such as a very creamy finish that lingers forever. However, it is somewhat harsh and has a very overpowering smell/taste of band-aids which is hard to get past.
The 15 is much smoother and is a more relaxing experience. It has enough sweetness to satisfy the speyside/highland drinkers, and enough peat/earth/smoke to satisfy the islay lovers. There is just enough medicinal notes to remind you that you are in fact drinking laphroaig but it isn't over powering and is very tolerable.
This is definitely a must try, and if it isn't just a marketing campaign, you should buy a couple bottles to have lying around for when they run out and it's gone until the next re-release of the delicious laphroaig 15

1st July 2015

You won't regret it

Just fantastic. Love the peat and iodine. Slightly toned down compared to its 10-year sibling (obviously), this is an exceptional product.

29th June 2015

Thanks goodness for this special bottling!

What a delicious ode to its sadly discontinued predecessor. Beautiful Laphroaig peaty background but with citrus and spice speckled throughout. I could leave my nose in this glass for hours. Once in the mouth, I don't want it to leave, yet the finish is sublime. I'd buy a case if I could!
