    Single Malt

    Glenrothes Sherry Cask Reserve

The Glenrothes Sherry Cask Reserve was introduced to the Speyside distillery's core range in 2014, and it's definitely one for the Sherry lovers out there, as this is the first single malt from Glenrothes to be completely matured in first-fill Sherry casks. Yum.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Plump raisins, candied ginger and crumbly shortbread dusted with sugar. Crushed walnuts and oak appear further on.

    Palate

Flamed orange zest and cinnamon, with more ginger and spice from the cask up front. This swiftly turns to juicy sultanas and raisins, with perhaps a tiny wisp of earthy smoke.

    Finish

Brown sugar, citrus peel and nutmeg last on the finish.

Looks like a bomb but it's just a harmless speysider.

Not my cup of tea. Reminds me of Cragganmore and Strathisla. Lots of heather and little trace of sherry.

    Quite pleasant indeed

Apart from being bottled at 40% this is an excellent sherried whisky. All the typical cherries, plums and raisins with hints of apple pie and cinnamon. Superb dessert dram and incredibly smooth I just wish it was a higher strength. Still a good buy for $50 I think. The Sugarbear

Simple. It's smooth delicate texture mixed with the hard hitting strength of ginger warms the mouth and enhances the after taste of orange and spices. Fantastic single malt - never to be mixed!!! Enjoy

    Yum Indeed!

This is excellent stuff. I suppose Glenrothes are more experienced at creating a good NAS than most, having done it by choice, whereas others are now virtually forced to. This is even better than the Select Reserve, which was always good since i first discovered it about 5 years ago. I have tried Macallan Gold & Amber, & neither come near to this, it's a good, no nonsense sherried-style Speyside. Only reason it doesn't get a 5 is the price- a little steep, but there are seriously inferior malts out there which cost more. Must admit, Gordon & Macphail's Mortlach 15 is even better, but thin on the ground at the moment. Taste profile:- can't argue with M of M.
