Wormtub
The team at Wormtub Whisky are on a mission to highlight the brilliance of this lesser-seen bit of distilling kit, celebrating the handful of Scotch distilleries that still use a worm tub condenser with a limited-edition Single Cask series. This single malt hails from Craigellachie – prized for its robust depth and oily, meaty character, thanks in great part to the distillery's use of a worm tub. The whisky spent 13 years maturing in a teeny little Pedro Ximénez octave, yielding just 93 cask-strength bottles.
Zesty orange peels, citrus oil, bold malt, and a touch of waxed jacket lead to notes of chocolate eclairs and brandy snaps. A sweetly herbacous hint of fennel salami nestles among candied walnuts and leathery oak beneath.
Sweet, dense sherried oak glides beside rich, oily malt. Warm caramel, elegant baking spices, prunes, and grilled apricots are backed by chewy oak and spicy beer sticks.
Fragrant leather, drying oak, vibrant barley. Spices and oak join a tangle of toffee and preserved fruit.
