Caperdonich - Batch 2 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

The Caperdonich distillery was sadly mothballed in 2002, though there is still some whisky available for fantastic bottlings such as this one from ‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’.

This label features a night time scene of misdemeanour. A ‘donich caper if you will… The perpetrators are attempting to drill into the spirit pipe between Caperdonich and its sister distillery, Glen Grant, to get at the liquor-rich goodness within. Cheeky Monkeys. This is Batch 2, with a release of just 45 numbered bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, bourbons, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

White grape juice gives way to a floral Highland duet of heather and gorse. Underneath runs warming toffee and a touch of peat.

Palate

Wafts of smoke flow over the palate becoming ashy with time. However, the body is comprised of green grapes, green apples and refreshing menthol.

Finish

The peat becomes more charcoal-like with that cleansing menthol from the palate clinging on, finally apple peel holds the fort for the lingering remainder of the finish.

Overall

Batch 1 was stunning but Batch 2 comes through with something that bit more complex and entertaining. Why is this distillery closed?!
