From Dramfool comes the FINAL release of the Jim McEwan Signature Collection and the brand saved the best till last: Jim’s favourite three casks. It's been quite a ride. How often does a whisky legend personally nose and select casks for a collection that honours his contribution to the spirit?
Port Charlotte 9.2 was distilled on 26 October 2007 and was aged in a first-fill Vosne Romanee barrique (cask #5) for 16 years. The small commune of Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits’ region is known for creating extraordinary Pinot Noir wines and boasts eight Grand Cru vineyards. Its finesse, depth, and intensity of rich, fruitiness are held in high regard. The single malt Scotch whisky you see before you was bottled in January 2024 as Release 9.2 and like everything in the collection, it was presented un-chill filtered, with no added colour and at a cask strength (in this case, 62.4% ABV). This cask yielded only 258 bottles.

The peat smoke, the fruit, the oak, the Atlantic Ocean, the traditional distillation style since 1881 and its created by real people who know exactly what the standard required is. The notes from the Barrique work wonderfully with the peat smoke creating a unique Islay Hebridean spirit matured full term a stones throw from the sea.
It's a gorgeous palate experience and at 62.4% the smoke & the sea work in harmony encapsulated in a halo of the Vosne Romanee Barrique. It's a unique taste experience. The malted barley flavours are to the fore throughout.
Texture: Strong & full of Islay character that works beautifully with the Vosne Romanee, a wonderful rare combination that is in its prime.
