Blue Hanger - 14th Release (Berry Bros. & Rudd)
After ten long years away, Blue Hanger returns. Berry Bros. & Rudd first introduced Blue Hanger in the 1990s as a limited edition whisky built from exceptional single malts, with each numbered release created from its own distinct cask make up. Over time, it became a cult favourite.
That story goes back to William Blue Hanger, 3rd Lord Coleraine, a famously stylish figure in Georgian London and a loyal Berry Bros. & Rudd customer in the late 18th century. Known for his blue clothes and immaculate dress sense, he was considered one of the great dandies of his day. Naturally, Berry Bros. & Rudd named one of its most distinctive whisky creations after him.
This 26 year old Blue Hanger is a marriage of aged malt whiskies, with the youngest component having matured for 26 years and the oldest reaching 34 years. It was created from seven casks in total, bringing together six bourbon hogsheads and a single sherry butt. Historically, Blue Hanger has often balanced sherried Highland richness with peated Islay character, while different releases have explored orchard fruit, coastal smoke, mature oak, and polished cask depth. It's bottled at 45.6% ABV with only 2,500 bottles released. It's a seriously collectible return from one of Berry Bros. & Rudd’s most beloved whisky series.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Milk chocolate and soft caramel lead the way, joined by citrus peel, stewed orchard fruits, and sherried depth.
Palate
Oily and rounded, with barley sweets, apple, pear, caramel, and oak.
Finish
Baking spice lifts the finish, before mellow chocolate, sweet fruit, and soft oak linger.
