A marvellously impressive rum released by the chaps at Smooth Ambler out in West Virginia, USA. They've got a good nose for great spirits (as obvious from their Old Scout whiskey), and have bottled this delicious blend of Jamaican rums, the youngest of which was laid down in 1990! The result is a rum that is absolutely bursting with delicious tropical fruit notes all the way through - gorgeous stuff for sure.
Loads of fruit on the nose: tangerine, red grape, mango, pineapple, apple chips - quite a list! A touch of lit match gives it some smoky, subtly saline elements.
The intense fruitiness persists, with a little more juicy berry notes. Hints of white chocolate and exotic spices develop throughout.
Festively spices at first, before an enjoyable burst of pear and raspberry notes sends it off with a flourish.
Damn this is good rum, bought a sampler now back for the whole bottle. I've tried hundreds of rums but not many better. Complex, rich, fascinating.
I bought this as a sampler and now I'm keen to get me a whole bottle! Really refined, complex and oaky yet super smooth. You could just get lost in the smell alone. No hint of astringency for a strong(ish) rum and a very fair price for such a premium rum. Actually puts a lot of pricier premium rums to shame!
Nice love it Miquelon fruity
Nice underpriced
How a rum that's been aged for over 25 years can be on sale at under £70 beggars belief. Just look at the equivalent prices for something like Havana Club, or even Eldorado. There's a wisp of lovely smoked meat (think chewy BBQ) to this too. Most welcome.
