The eponymous spiced rum named for Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins, a world famous tattoo artists who created the recipe whilst working at sea.
Vanilla spice, butter, oak, cinnamon, nutmeg and ground ginger. Drying and sweet on the palate with notes of winter spice and black pepper, toffee.
This is my go-to rum for parties and nights out; its best mixed but can be sipped neat or on the rocks if you want, although Kraken is better for this. I've tried Admiral Vernon's Old J, which imitates the old Sailor Jerry recipe that people so desperately miss, and it's good, but the new Sailor ain't so bad. Summed up, great for mixing, alright for sipping, and not as bad as people say.
Like the old recipe? Google "Admiral vernon Old J" as the name suggests it is made based on the original Sailor Jerries recipe and for roughly £20. Unsure whether or not it is available outside the UK but search around :) Enjoy!
The recipe has changed it now tastes almost like a minty mouthwash
The new recipe was created for the American market, much to the annoyance of every other country it seems. Don't bother buying this new version as you are better of with Morgans Spiced instead, it's much more palatable. However if you search on eBay you can still get the old recipe for around £70 for a 1.5ltr bottle - well worth it in my opinion as the "original" original recipe is the smoothest rum I have ever had the pleasure of drinking.
always drank jerry but not any more the new recipe is disgusting haven't the distillers got any taste or dont they drink rum ?
