Planteray Xaymaca Rum

This 100% pot still Jamaican rum made with a blend of spirits from Long Pond and Clarendon distilleries, which Maison Ferrand now owns a third of after purchasing the West Indies Rum Distillery in 2017. Master blender Alexandre Gabriel created the Xaymaca (pronounced zay-muck-uh) brand, which is the original name for Jamaica that the indigenous Arawaks, who inhabited Jamaica well before Columbus set foot on the island in 1494, gave it. Xaymaca actually means 'land of wood and water.'

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Carmalized banana and syrupy pineapple lead among drying herbal notes and prickles of brown spices.

Reviews for Planteray Xaymaca Special Dry
The Rum I Recommend for Rum & Cokes
A nice rum neat. I got intresting notes of pencil shavings on the palate. Not much on the nose for a Jamaican rum.

For a while I only drank it neat then I mixed it with coke and it went to a whole new level. Flavours of overripe pineapple come to the front. This really needs to be tried and makes this the rum I would recommend for anybody that only drinks rum & cokes.

doesn't compare to scotch.
If this truly is a great rum like the latter reviews seem to suggest than I'm not a rum fan. I enjoy Speyside single malts and this was my first dip into rum. My main objection to this expression is the neutral alcohol taste. A taste similar to that found in blended scotch, single grain whisky, and genever. It dulls the flavours and adds a glue component to the smell and taste. Aside from this, perty nice booze, fruity banana pineapple notes, not very complex. Will not be buying again seeing I can also buy quite a few similarly priced 12yo single malts here in Europe.

Outstanding Finish
I bought Plantation Xaymaca because I have tried almost every other rum in the brand. I love the clean warmth that you get as it works its way down your throat, and the aroma as you lift the glass to your mouth. So incredibly smooth. This is not the most expensive Plantation rum available, but for me, it is the stand out brew and most satisfying. I have had several bottles of this now, it is my ‘go to’ rum, that is always right for whenever you want a drop of delicious luxury.

Incredible
i highly recommend this Rum, especially if you like fruity flavours, the banana really comes through but not in an over powering way. absolutely love it.

It's special for me
I can't really put a finger on this but from the second you pop it open it has that unique jamaica vibe/scent to it. Really fruity and sweet, it can be surprisingly dry for the unprepared but hits the spot nicely. I hoard the plantation brand as its my go to stuff but this left to air for half an hour on a sunny day while relaxing in the garden and you smell the magic from 2 meters away.
