William Kerr's Borders

Made in Scotland by The Borders Distillery Hawick, in the first distillery in the Borders since 1837. William Kerr’s Borders Gin is a 100% handcrafted gin that was distilled in a Carter-Head still with a copper basket that suspends the botanicals (juniper, angelica, coriander, liquorice, cassia and more) in the vapour of the original spirit.

The Scottish gin was named after the accomplished botanist from Hawick who became a gardener at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, London.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose A creamy, floral nose with plenty of dried orange and coriander seed citrus, juniper and a prickle of baking spice.

Palate A little liquorice and honeyed sweetness combines with herbaceous notes of cassia and coriander as well as some lemon peel.

Finish Quite short and impressively delicate.

Reviews for William Kerr's Borders Gin
Unique taste
This is the TRUE GIN TASTE for me. Strong taste, perfect with tonic and an orange with a few drops of fresh lemon.

Too harah
This Gin to me has a very over powering taste. It tastes like very harsh alcohol. It tastes like taking shots of goldschlager. Did not enjoy.

Differently interesting
Very different from other gins and probably an acquired taste. I really didn’t enjoy it on first tasting, it had a strong whisky or grappa note (streaker aldehydes). However it is growing on me, and the dried orange and coriander are coming through,

Incredible gin
I purchased a bottle of William Kerr's in-store at Fenwicks, but have just found the price is cheaper on here so will be reordering in future when my current stock runs low (which should be pretty soon!!) This is honestly one of the best, most unique gins I have ever tasted, to the point where it has ruined other gins for me! Cannot be beaten in a gin & tonic on a hot summer's day with some orange or grapefruit. Would definitely recommend as a present or just for your own alcohol shelf as the bottle is so beautiful.

Unique and ground breaking - WILL BUY AGAIN
What an unbelievably unique Gin! So many Gins taste the same but this one is truly ground breaking. I picked this up in Dubai's Le Clos airport duty free shop and then found it on here when I was looking at how to get it in the UK. The staff their were great and told me of the unique way it is made from malted barley rather than wheat like most Gins. It gives it a smooth consistency and helps hold the flavours of the botanicals incredibly well. To me, the prominent flavours were orange and citrus which was backed up beautifully by a subtle liquorice tastes. I will be buying plenty more of this when I am back in Blighty!

Not good
I suppose it is gin, but tastes of nothing but liquorice, no subtlety at all. Would not drink again.

Tasted of whisky
I am afraid all I could taste is whisky!!
Have I had a duff bottle? Or is it supposed to taste of whisky?
I love gin but hate whisky

Ahhh, the Joy of Kerr's
They say they distill their own spirit from barley, rather than wheat. They say the botanicals are suspended in the vapour of the spirit, rather than drowned in it. They say their Carter-Head Still delivers a subtlety of flavour that beats the pants off any column still. All of which may be true. But it's the liquid that finally pours out of the bottle that really matters, and it's a glass of pure joy. If you appreciate high quality gins, you'll love this one.

Thumbs up from 007
A great looking bottle of gin that you'd really want to have on display and try out on friends. The combination of flavours are perfect with a quality tonic and slice of orange. It also makes a magical dry martini. Bond would certainly approve !

Well special. Well. Be there or be square.
I have had the pleasure of drinking this. Visited the distillery in Hawick. Believe me, this gin has a BIG future. If I had nothing else to do in my life, I’d get involved big time. What scent. What flavour. What punch. It has it all. If there were six stars, assuming seven out of the question, I’d be there. Try this, or miss out. Big time.
