Already an awards show favourite, this gin from 57° SKYE sees the brand flex its maturation muscles by popping its London dry gin in French oak casks which previously contained Banyuls liquor, a fortified apéritif. These 225-litre casks were finished on-site on The Isle of Skye, hence the idea of marrying earth and sea.
Still juniper-forward, with more botanical notes of fresh citrus joined by the cask influence: waxy vanilla, aromatic spice, and sweet buttery apple.
I don’t like flavoured gins and with hindsight this was the wrong choice for me. The colour of this gin isn’t very appealing but the worst for me was the unpleasant aftertaste. I appreciate flavoured gin lovers would likely enjoy this but I prefer a ‘cleaner’ tasting gin. I didn’t enjoy this but was a poor choice by me rather than a poor gin.
Raise a glass to the marriage of the earth and the sea. Beautifully rich flavour with hints of spice. Having already tried and enjoyed the distillery’s other gin I was eager to see if this could match it. Exceeds expectations and then some.
Wow, this was recommended to me by a friend and it definitely didn't disappoint. A gin that’s not entirely like a gin. The juniper shines through, but it has an amazing sweetness at the end. Incredible, and so easy to drink. I had it both on the rocks and with a regular tonic.
This is my second bottle of this gin as the first almost went in record time. The complexity of the flavour is absolutely delicious, highly recommend that you enjoy it neat over ice to get the full impact of the different characteristics on your palette. The subtle warming hue from the cask barrels adds to the aesthetics echoing a hint of spice. Competitively priced - am anticipating seeing more great things from this new distillery - definitely one to watch!
Bought a bottle on a friend's recommendation. It's delicious - a really unique rich flavour. Could taste the spice through the tonic. It also worked well in a gimlet. The bottle is beautiful too.
