Kentucky Vintage

It wasn’t long ago that Willett Distillery essentially existed as an independent bottler, relying on a trade of purchasing barrels and ageing them in its Bardstown warehouses under the name ‘Kentucky Bourbon Distillers’. While renovations to the distillery in 2012 meant in a change in operations and the undertaking of its own distillations, Willett still maintains several brands whose whiskey it doesn’t produce, including its renowned Small Batch Boutique Bourbon Collection.

Released in the 1990s, the collection featured four sourced bourbons in total; Pure Kentucky, Rowan’s Creek, Noah’s Mill and Kentucky Vintage.

Kentucky Vintage is said to be made from a marriage of bourbons aged for around 10 years, although the label merely states it has been matured ‘long beyond that of any ordinary bourbon’. Much like its sister brands in the Small Batch Boutique Bourbon Collection, Kentucky Vintage benefits from a distinctive and attractive bottle, with a sturdy barrel-shape, traditional wax seal and parchment-paper-style label.

Kentucky Vintage has managed to carve its own path since its release in the 1990s, not just due to its individual aesthetic, but because of its standard as a small-batch bourbon, which was been recognised numerous times. The San Francisco World Spirits Competition, awarded it a double gold medal in 2005 and a silver medal in 2012.
