Beautifully crafted Bas-Armagnac from Baron de Sigognac. The company owns one short column still which is almost a century old, and it produces around 50-60 casks a year.
Very supple with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg, sweet vanilla notes and a lovely array of fresh flowers and orange peel.<br
Rich and earthy with notes of conserves and peels, butterscotch, sweet spices, oak.
A superb finish with marzipan, hazelnut and custard.
$36.11 - $120.30
So different from cognac, much drier fiinish, austere almost. Beautifuly made, spicy, nutty, delicious !
As good as ever ! My favourite Armagnac, pretty much as described in the tasting notes.
I agree with the other reviews below, the nose is absolutely stunning, and while the palate is also very good the finish is short. If this were bottled at 43%-46% it would be amazing, but as it is, it's still worth the price for the nose alone.
so smooth one can hardly feel it going down ones throat, hold it under your tongue and let it warm and release some citrus, sure it lacks legs, but its worth every penny at 30 squid,...which i once spent on a tot of 1911 nac at the hotel du vin, only cause that was my dads birth year, now i realise why people will spend thousands on a bottle, i smelt and tasted flavours i had never dreamt of !or come across in fifty years, and my final quick recommendation for malt lovers,.. go to Islay and spend as much time there as you can and drink as much Malt as you are able !
I find this hard to review, the nose is so amazing and wonderful the rest is almost a let down. My expectations were set so high when breathing this in that I was disappointed to find the nose and the palate weren't exactly alike - of course it never is but I wanted more. Nose: Fresh, sweet and aluring. Vanilla, almond, honey, a little cinnamon and something citrusy. Palate: Fresh but oaky with vanilla, caramel, marzipan and a hint of nutmeg Finish: Light and somewhat short with almonds I wish the palate had a little more sweetness and depth, as it is, it is light and fresh when I was expecting something heavier after the nose but it's not disappointing just unexpected. The finish is a little disappointing as it is short and light while I would expect something more lingering and complex in a 10yr old. Easy drinking though and I still can't get enough of that nose.
