Well greetings one and all. Ready for another installment of #MasterofCocktails? Good then.
This week’s is a very, very straightforward drink, but one that seems to have fallen somewhat out of favour recently. We’re making a Pink Gin recipe. Probably one of the very first Gin cocktails?
The original recipe here calls for simply gin and bitters, served at room temperature, in a tumbler. Not that, obviously.
You’ll be needing these…
List of Ingredients
- 60ml of Bathtub Gin
- 2 shakes of Angostura Bitters
- A lemon (garnish)
We’re going to marginally update the recipe, but without messing with the ingredients. First – Gin.
You definitely want something gutsy here, with a touch of sweetness. I’ve chosen Bathtub Gin. Pour a 60ml Measure. No sense mucking about when there’s (really) just one ingredient.
Pop that into a stirring glass with a good handful of ice.
Next – the bitters. Has to be Angostura for this. You want about 2 shakes – judge it by colour.
This is what you’re looking for:
Now give it a good stir – 30 seconds or so. We want dilution here.
We’re going to garnish this with a lemon twist, but I’ve got a bit of a trick here. Cut one thusly:
Cut a slot in the fat end, and wrap around the stem, So you get aroma without massive infusion.
Now strain your drink into your pre-chilled coupette glass…
Snap a (small) lemon peel over the top and discard.
And serve. The Pink Gin. Bone Dry, but somehow reassuringly sweet at the same time.
Enjoy!
Crikey that’s good. Wowser. That’s one hell of an under-appreciated drink.
We love it when people get involved and make-along with us on Twitter, just like @Welshboy_Mark has done! Nice one, Mark!
If you want to make-along with the next #MasterofCocktails, here’s the ingredients you’re going to need.
Next week, you’ll be needing these…
St. George Botanivore Gin, Green Chartreuse, Martini Gran Lusso, Luxardo Maraschino Cherries, Regan’s Orange Bitters No. 6 and a Lemon.
Ben.
