Sometimes, a great thing happens off the back of something else unexpectedly. When we gave you all the chance to win a very rare, not-available-for-sale, mahoosive 3 litre bottle of Glenfarclas 105 on 105 Day (by telling us why you deserved it most on Facebook or Twitter), we expected some great responses. What we didn’t perhaps expect was the sheer number of entries, or that thanks to our winner’s brilliant response we’d all now have a chance to help raise some money for a great cause.
Deserved winner Andrew Wheelhouse will be running from London (Orpington) to Tunbridge Wells – over 21 miles – on Saturday 2nd May to collect his Glenfarclas and to raise money that will allow 16 Malawian children to attend secondary school for an entire year. He’s not a seasoned runner either (he had to go out and buy trainers when he found out he’d won!) so this is one hell of an undertaking. In the words of our new favourite person:
“One thing I appreciate in life (aside from a fine single malt) is the value of access to education. I’m fundraising for Ripple Africa because they promise a ‘hand up not a hand out’. The Malawian government cannot afford to provide free secondary education, but donating money towards Ripple Africa’s secondary school scholarships for poor children in Nkhata Bay means we can help ensure that no child gets left behind.”
You, specifically you, can donate (we’ll certainly all be doing so) here:
Ripple Africa and some of the great work they do.
So how exactly did this all come about? Well, here’s Andrew’s winning entry:
Go hard or go home.
Obviously we sent him a bee costume immediately…
He is ready.
Best of luck Andrew! We’ll let you know all about his run and how he gets on in a couple of weeks. Until then, don’t forget to Donate!
