Whisky on the iPhone
The year 2007 was a dichotomy, marked by the onset of the Global Financial Crisis and the revolutionary launch of the iPhone.
Macallan shone this year with the release of its 1926 Fine and Rare, which became one of the most expensive whiskies ever sold. The release highlighted the investment potential of well-aged, well-crafted whisky. Balvenie, not to be outdone, launched its Tun 1401 series, a batched blend of some of their finest casks, earning a strong following for its craft presentation and intricate flavors.
Among independent bottlers, Whisky Lounge began its annual Whisky Festival, allowing smaller bottlers to showcase their offerings alongside industry giants. The festival became a staple for whisky enthusiasts looking to discover hidden gems. Speciality Drinks, another independent bottler, introduced the Port Askaig range, featuring undisclosed Islay whiskies that became popular for their consistent quality and reasonable pricing. Despite economic downturns, the whisky industry in 2007 continued to grow in terms of both quality and variety, making it a particularly interesting year for collectors and investors.
