What's in a name? Lagavulin Distillery Only whisky is called whisky because it's produced in Scotland. Were it from America it would be spelled Lagavulin Distillery Only whiskey, rather than whisky.
The Master of Malt
Somehow better than the 16
It may not be justified by the price difference, but if that is less of an issue, the DO edition is more subtle than the 16 with additional nuanced flavors like burnt caramel, or a mild smoked sea salt. Worth it if ya got it.
An Outstanding Release
Is this still available anywhere? One of the best Lagavulin releases available at any price. There is a complex dryness that really contrasts with the sweet and slightly briny oily undertones, wonderful layers of smoke that you would come to expect but somehow more rounded than the 16 or the DE. If you can find one, buy it.
