Japanese Whisky

Japanese whiskies are crafted in the Scottish style. We find they lie between Lowland and Speyside in style. Delicate and perfumed with honeyed sweetness. One regularly hears them described as being smooth, but that is doing them an injustice. Light sherry and floral notes, sometimes they have been peated for a smoky, quasi Islay style.

The burgeoning whisky Japanese industry has been largely attributed to its two founding fathers:...

An incredible addition to the Ichiro's Malt Card range. Each whisky, in very modish style, is named after a playing card. We love them! This was distilled at the Hanyu distillery in 1986, and aged in a hogshead before a finish in a Pedro Ximenez sherry butt. Bottled in 2009.  More info

A very special Hanyu bottled by Number One Drinks. This was distilled in 1988, aged for 21 years in Spanish Oak Sherry Butt number 9306 before bottling in 2009. A release of 625 bottles. This has one of the very modish Noh labels. Noh is a traditional style of Japanese theatre.  More info
