Scotch Grain Whisky

90% of all Scotch whisky sold is blended whisky. Blended whisky has been the cornerstone of the industry for so long because it is cheaper to produce than single malt whisky. The reason is, blended whisky contains grain whisky as well as malt whisky and grain whisky is much cheaper and easier to produce. The grain brings quantity and the malt that is added brings the quality. So together you have an approachable whisky that is more economical than a single malt.

Recently, however, we've seen a few Scotch grain whiskies released individually to flaunt the fact that grain whiskies can be delectable in their own right. There are some single grains and even blended grain whiskies. A number of single grains come from the Lowlands, for there is a number of grain distilleries in the region.
