Last year we headed north. Very north. To the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland: Wolfburn! And with Burns Night on the horizon, now seems like the perfect time to reminisce over the trip…

Welcome to Wolfburn Distillery! In late 2018 we headed north of the border to discover one of Scotland’s newer whisky makers. Located on the outskirts of Thurso, the production site as we know it was founded in 2012. But that’s not the start of the story.

Whisky was actually being made on the Wolfburn site more than 150 years ago, but it’s taken a lot of hard work and a steely vision to restore the abandoned distillery. It was originally built on the site due to the Wolf Burn (see what they did there?!) water source, something you just can’t move. So the team bought the land, renovated the site, and today, there’s a working distillery on the land once more!

Wolfburn today boasts a whole array of single malt whiskies, including Aurora, Northland, Morven and Langskip, plus a number of small-batch releases. Everything is non-chill-filtered and bottled at its natural colour, and the team is already experimenting with different cask finishes.

We travelled up to have a nose around and find out what sets Wolfburn apart. Enjoy the footage!
