Bitter is a descendent of Pale Ale that’s eminently drinkable with moderate to high bitterness. It’s a style that has close ties to the UK dating back to the 19th century and is enjoyed in ‘proper’ pubs up and down the country. They can range from a bronze-tinted gold to a charming dark copper colour, and will most likely sit between 3.5-4.6% ABV, with Special and Best bitters at the top end of that range and ESB (extra special/strong bitter) being stronger (up to 6 or 7%).
